i think it would be nice to have all the pao fans and haters too, have their ideal pao starting eleven with the players currently with the team....

mine would be as follows...

............galinovic

vyntra.. goumas morris.. darla

........biscan......leontiou............

....................eki......................

mantzios..... gekas .......pap......

have tziolis as a sub for biscan and/or leontiou...

nilsson would rotate with vyntra when he is healthy...

Seric, Bides, Wooter and andric should most likely leave pao at seasons end

just my opinion....

----------Galinovic--------------

Nilsson---Goumas--Kotsios---Darlas

------------Biscan---Leontiou--------

-----------------Gonzales------------

----Gekas---------------------Papa---

-----------------Mantzios--------------

Subs: Tzorvas, Morris, Haralabidis, Tziolis, Theodoridis, Gansef, Kritikos

(Morris would play over Kotsios when in form, and Tziolis would play over any forward against teams like Barcelona and Werder when 4 midfielders make sense)

Also Vyntra was born in the Czech republic. :)

All of you have good points.

PAO has several players of similar talent, who can be interchanged.

That brings good depth, but creates stability issues.

Our weakness is defence. None of our current players can be compared to the defensive "walls" of past years.

No Rene, Sotiris, Giourkas, Kalitzakis, Ouzounidis, Apostolakis, Kyrastas, Kapsis etc...

Morris is in a slump, Kotsios hard working but not enough, Vyntra better at attacking, Goumas has been injured and has to make up for time lost.

Darlas has had some good games, and Nilson showed much improvement before the injury.

The midfield has many decent options, of which only Gonzo is indispensable.

Will Tziolis, Leontiou, develop to become the young Karagounis/Basinas?

Papa, is the leader up front and could be complemented by Manzios, Gekas or both.

What is missing are the couple of players that will make the difference, and take PAO back to respectability in Europe.

I do not see that happening with the current roster.

Someone needs to come in and take this team out of mediocrity.

Will the owner take that big and decisive step?

Only when true "stars", by example, not fame, the type of

Saravakos, Warzycha, Borrelli, Mickland, Rocha, Domazos, Apostolakis, Kapsis have been around,

has our PAO been able to excel beyond expectations.

PEACE

No! Pap was born in Kazakhstan and the offcial site inaccurately states Tashkent (which is the capital of Uzbekistan and might have confused you).

When our NT played in Kazakhstan, Pap gave an interview about his feelings for returning to his birthplace

actually i think it was Uzbekistan (serioulsy)

aged ten in 1991, working his way through the ranks to the first team within six years - helping the club complete an amazing rise from fourth to first division.

2001: Tried his hand in England at first division Burnley FC with a €700,000 transfer, yet his time was disrupted by international commitments and he did not make a league start during the 2001/02 season. Despite appearing in over 30 matches the next, scoring three times, Papadopoulos returned to Greece to sign for Panathinaikos FC for a fee believed to be in the region of €280,000, with a sell-on clause.

2003: Adapted superbly to his first season in the Alpha Ethniki and was Panathinaikos's most consistent performer along with Emmanuel Olisadebe. He scored 17 goals in 26 matches as the Greens won their first title in eight years and also opened the scoring in the Greek Cup final defeat of Olympiacos CFP.

2004/05: Despite a hectic summer in Portugal and the Olympics, he struck eight league goals in the season that followed, and one in the 4-1 UEFA Champions League victory against PSV Eindhoven that preceded a brief UEFA Cup campaign. In August 2005 struck a vital 86th-minute goal to level their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Wisla Kraków as Panathinaikos won through.

Did you know?

Papadopoulos was born in Kazakhstan to Greek parents.
