Hearts manager leaves Tynecastle

Recommended Posts

Reports have come out this morning that George Burley has left SPL league leaders Hearts. It's not clear if he has been sacked or resigned, but a statement will be made following today's game at home to Dunfermline.

There have been rumours that Burley was not happy at the level of involvement Lithuanian owner Vladimir Romanov had in the signing of players.

The rumours have begun already:

George Burley is heading to Rangers and Martin O'neill could be interested in the vacant Hearts position.

An eastern European manager is expected by many to replace Burley.

Team selection appears to be at the root of the Burley leaving this morning.

Hearts are 2-0 up at halftime, so it's business as usual for the players. Skacel is once again on the scoresheet.

that completely surprises me... Is there any more info on this story somewhere else? I'm very curious to see why.

It's amazing to me becasue we all know that there's really 2 teams in the SPL and now that Hearts is actually shaking things up, someone goes in internally and tries to dimantle it.

Have we all heard the expression "if it ain't broke - don't fix it"

Sounds a bit too much like what happens in Greece when owners (take your pick???) interfere in the affairs of the squad and things go to sh*t afterwards. Brutal.

Just because they have money doesn't neccesarily make them football geniuses. I hope this doesn't screw Hearts up too much.

A statement will be read in 1 hours time, which will hopefully shed some light on the cause.

One theory is that Burley was reluctant to play one of Romanov's signings, defender Camazzola. No prizes for guessing who started the match today.

The game finished 2-0, moving them 6 points ahead of Celtic - who visit Kilmarnock tomorrow. Skacel and Hartley removed their strip at the end of the game to reveal "FOR THE GAFFER" written on their tee shirt, in a display of support for the outgoing manager.

Graeme Souness and Mick McCarthy were both at the game. Either of those could be looking for a job tomorrow if their side lose the north east derby tomorrow.

Aston Villa's chairman Doug Ellis has apparantly been in touch with Burley. Their defeat at home today against Wigan will not help David O'Leary.

Should be quite an atmosphere at one of the great English derbies. With both sides struggling so far, 3 points will be more important than just the local bragging rights.

You just have to think that Newcastle will turn the corner ....... unless of course they don't have the correct manager in place to make it happen. The face of the Newcastle chairman during the game will tell the story. His patience must be wearing thin.

Despite a confidentiality clause being signed over the reasons for the split, rumour has it that Romanov handed Burley the teamsheet prior to the recent Celtic match. Burley refused and named his own team.

Nevio Scala and Sir Bobby Robson are current favourites to land the vacant post at Tynecastle. Both were interviewed in the summer before George Burley was appointed, and are said to be still interested in the job.

Some bookies are offering odds of 150/1 for owner Romanov to name himself as manager.

Hearts have already received more than 20 applications for the vacant manager's job. In addition to some of those named above, Lothar Matthaus, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Claudio Ranieri have been mentioned as possible applicants.
