Thompson for an alleged head butt on Lovendkrands, (who went down disgracefully easily) and Sutton for a second yellow for deliberate hand ball. It has been reported that Lovenkrands was attacked in the tunnel at halftime by 2 Celtic players, which saw him miss the 2nd half. It was a miracle no further reds were produced, with Novo and Camara particularly lucky to stay on the field. The nine man Celtic side managed to keep out Rangers for the entire 2nd half, but by this time the game was over. Normal service resumed on the streets of towns across the west of Scotland (and Belfast I presume), where pitched battles took place throughout the evening. A teenager's body was found behind Ibrox stadium in the early hours of Sunday morning, though police are yet to confirm a direct link to the match. The police took the decision some years back to play matches at noon to avoid drunken behavior during games. This leaves the problem that fans have the entire day to drink following the game, with the trouble taking place away from the stadium later in the evening. Is there a solution? I doubt it. An early Chjris Sutton header was enough to secure the points against a well organised United side who had keeper Tony Bullock in great form after a month out injured. Rangers kept the gap to a single point with a 1-0 away victory at Kilmarnock. The goal came from ex Ajax striker Averladze, who looks set to leave Ibrox before the summer. Inverness continue to climb the table, with a fine 2-1 away victory at Motherwell. It was apparantly caused by a lighter thrown from the crowd. The authorities decided to schedule the match as early as possible to avoid a repeat of the violent scenes at Parkhead in 1999 when Rangers won the league at the home of their rivals. Although this match will be regarded as the title decider, the championship should still be mathematically possible after the game.
JOHNNY
Results of matches played on 12th April: Inverness CT 1-0 Motherwell Rangers 0-1 Dundee United Dundee United last night moved off the bottom of the table after shocking leaders Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox last night. A goal after 7 minutes from Duff was the only goal of the match, although Rangers missed several clear chances through Prso, Novo and Averladze. United keeper Bullock made several outstanding saves, including a goal bound 18 yard volley from Kyrgiakos in the closing minute. This was only United's fifth win of the season, but more remarkably, they are now unbeaten in their last 5 league matches with Rangers. Inverness kept their hopes of a top 6 place (the league spilits at the weekend) alive by defeating Motherwell 1-0. They were looking to improve their goal difference, but couldn't add to the single goal.
