Bruges players scored all six goals of the match, giving their opponents two own goals. Veteran goalkeeper Dany Verlinden, playing his last competitive game at the age of 40, and defender Birger Maertens both scored at the wrong end. The East Flemish SK Beveren had fielded 10 players from the Ivory Coast. The Cup victory takes Bruges ahead of Anderlecht who have wone it eight times. Beveren's appearance in the Cup final has earned them a place in next season's Uefa Cup, as Brugge play in the Uefa Champions League after finishing as runner-up in the league.
