PAO's New Coach: Ten Kate

According to this report it was not money that kept Panathinaikos from offering Laudroup a contract. In fact, it looks like he was offered an incredible amount of money.

Panathinaikos was offering an unprecidented 2.5 million EURO per season  but

Among the clauses that were rejected by Panathinaikos, the most irksome proved to be his request to be allowed to leave at any time if a Spanish club made an approach for him.

thats my point they are all professional teams where u compare to Greek league a coach has to put up with a differnt club culture as in politics/corruption, fans, and then the corruption of the league.

Its a whole new world the Greek league hence why i'd rather us get a Greek coach as the transition wont be such of a culture shock for the coach.

Any ways we'll see how TC goes :)

Do you guys think he will be worlds better than Melezani, Pes or Munoz?

My view has been that PAO needs to employ more veteran players--the ones with a true PAO ID--because I think it's very important to preserve and transmit institutional memory. Otherwise, it's come & go, and those young players don't fully understand the history of the club.

On the other hand, forced marriages rarely work ;) (if you catch my drift)

im not happy with ten cate.when in charge of ajax he finished 2nd in the league, got knocked out of the champions league by fc copenhagen. Got ajax knocked out of champions league again by slavia prague-another euro giant, then got ajax knocked out of uefa cup by dinamo zagreb, not very impresive.

Ajax fans cant stand him.he doeswnt get on well with the players, and is known to have a short fuse.

the only reason roman took him to chelsea was because he was no2 at barcelona when they knocked chelsea out of champions league.

i can smell trouble already.

I would of gone for someone like paolo campos he did a great job with asteras, got wins over pao, aek, osfp and paok in there first year in the big league.if he could do that with asteras what could he do with pao and the big budget?he was very flexible tactically.

ten cate is already telling us what system he is going to play, what if the players he has arent suited to his system?he reminds me of gunter bengston when he came to pao he was telling evryone we are going to play like liverpool, saravakos was wasted as a center forward having long balls thrown at him we were copping 6 in europe.

BIG MISTAKE.PS HI EVERY ONE THIS IS MY FIRST POST HERE, PAO AND ASTERAS TRIPOLI FAN FROM AUSTRALIA

Welcome Arcadian!

And, a very nice post! You raise good points.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ten Kate isn't an arrogant dictator. I believe he has to be firm, but also be able to bring the best out of every player. To do this he needs the right psychology & motivation. Screaming and having a short fuse isn't going to be a good thing.

But, it's been too long that this time every year we are having a new coach and getting excited about the next season, only to repeat the process a year later.... So, I'm just watching the developments, hoping for the best, but also keeping myself from being too excited.

Welcome Arcadian!

good points and all true. Bringing up Gunder Bengston is funny  Yes, we've had our share of weird coaches. But we also had coaches who were criticized before they showed their work, and proved us wrong. Kyrastas' hiring comes to mind when *everyone* complained why we did not sign a big name coach.

I am taking a wait and see approach here. I sense huge changes at PAO, and I suspect there is a conscious move towards a more aggressive team with a 'badass' attitude from top to bottom.

I get the feeling Antoniou wants more attitude on and off the field and probably that's why Ten Cate was chosen. I personally prefer the "nice guys" atmosphere we established over the last ten years, but I recognize that a little more aggressiveness on and off the pitch might be good, since I got the feeling we were taken to the cleaners by more the aggressive Olympiakos.

This is exactly the problem... and when PAO loses 4 or 5 games every one will want him sacked. <_<

He looks good. Let's hope, once again, that he'll be the one to lead PAO to becoming a formidable team.

It was only this season that our defense didn't allow many goals, but our offense (ever changing) didn't produce when we needed it to do so (I'm not talking about the playoffs--which were a gift to PAO this season).

Having experienced the last decade, this season was an improvement in how we played the game. I believe we played better than in 2004 when we won the title.

But, let's see if the chemistry remains and the new coach forges a great in-club mentality, that of a champion.

PS> and for goodness sake, let the man work long-term! we've tried changing coaches at least once every season... let's change THAT :la:

According to numerous reports from the UK, including from the newspaper "The Guardian" (which is renowned for being reliable), Ten Cate could become manager of Blackburn!!!!! Wtf is going on? Is this going to be another typically Greek debacle? Why hasn't he signed?

He has signed and been announced and already started working...

Its just a rubbish rumour, we heard it last week too, hes on Blackburns "list" is all. I guess they dont pay attention and didnt scratch his name off, because he has a club and a 2 year deal.

If I'm not mistaken he hasn't actually put pen to paper and signed though Drakos.

Seriously NYPAO

we signed the coach, hes ours by contract.

read the post above yours.

It says

MR. HENK TEN CATE SIGNED A CONTRACT FOR 2 YEARS AT PAO

from PAE.....Why would PAE report a signature they dont have? Their is absolutley nothing to gain, if they hadnt actually signed him, they would still be pursuing other coaches in addition.... And besides, we KNOW the guy has already started working looking at transfer prospects....

Only thing that happened is Guardian is not fact checking... The exact same story came out a week ago, and I think there was some mix up from when Ten Cate was still unofficial.

I saw a report when he arrived at the airport and said a few words in English with that typical Dutch accent.

PAO has got themselves a great leader there. I also look forwad to him beating up the players if they put a foot wrong. :P

Seriously though, he will be great for the club. I wish he was going to Oly.
