The Greek NT won the torunament by defeating Italy 3-0. Details from EPO.gr

In the first game of the tournament the NT defeated Spain. The regular game finished 0-0 and the Greek team won the penalty shoot-out 5-3. We will now meet Italy in the final. Details from EPO.gr:

There are serious problems with the new roof at Toumba Stadium. During the friendly game with Panserraikos, the roof leaked in several places, when it started raining during the game. Also yesterday, when the weather was quite windy, some sections of the newly installed roof were blown away by the strong winds.

The U-19 NT has qualified to the next stage of the U-19 European Championship. In the last two games of the qualifying group Greece managed the following results: GREECE - Wales 0-0 GREECE - Hungary 1-2 The final standings in the group: 1. Hungary 5-2 6 points 2. Greece 6-2 4 3. Wales 2-3 4 4. Feroe Islands 3-9 3 We managed to qualify thanks to a shock result, where Wales lost to Feroe Islands 3-1 in the last game of the qualifying tournament.

Here are some latest developments concerning the new roof. Unfortunately the roof will not be the latest technology as promissed by the Athens 2004 committee. As a result of budget cuts concerning the work done to Toumba, Harilaou and Kalamaria Stadiums, corners are being cut. It is rumored that posrtions of the old Toumba roof is being used in the construction of the new roof. The U-21 NT lost the game in Ukraine 1-0. Ukraine scored the goal with a penalty kick. This was Stelios Manolas's last game as the coach of th U-21 national team.

The U-21 national team plays Ukraine on October 8 as part of the U-21 European Championship qualificatiopn tournament. the game will be played at the valry Lobanovski Stadium in Kiev. Thefollowing players were called by Stelios Manolas for the game:

The U-19 national team will travel to feroe Islands to take part in the U-19 European Championship qualification trounament. The schedule of the U-19 NT is: 08-Oct-04: Greece - Feroe Islands 10-Oct-04: Greece - Wales 12-Oct-04: Greece - Hungary The following players were called up by the coach Alexis Alexious for these games:

Kostikos was replaced as the coach of the U-19 NT by Alexis Alexiou. Kostikos accepted the post of manager at PAOK.

Here is the latest status on the re-furbishment of Toumba. As everyone knows all this work was supposed to be completed in July 2004 before the Olympic Games. The new bulding is finished, with some interior work still needed to be cmpleted. The major part that still needs to be done is the roof over gates 1,2 & 3. When I went to see Toumba back in August, they had the iron supports in place for the roof, but nothing was being done as to the rest of the roof. It is now reported that work on assembling the roof has begun and it is expected to be finished sometimes in November.

Unfortunately our options are very limited, and right now the only way to see PAOK game on TV in US is the Olympiakos - PAOK game that will be shown on Antenna Satellite through Dishnetwork, and which is scheduled to take place on October 31, 2004. The other option might be ERT-Sat if they make a deal with Supersport to show on tape-delay basis the Supersport games. Supersport shows the home games of PAOK. However this has not ahppened yet, and we will have to wait to see if and when this will happen. For all the latest news on televised soccer games involving Greek teams keep checking ther Soccer on TV & Radio section at the top of the page. PAOK does not offer any games on CD or DVD.

Greece - Turkey 2-1 in the game played at Rizoupoli Stadium.

The U-21 NT managed only a 1-1 tie in Tirana today. The Albanian team, got the lead inthe first half, but the Greek team tied the game with Amntzios inthe 2nd half. The Greek team played with 10 players for the last 15 minutes after Leontiou received his 2nd yellow card. The game was part of the qualification group for the U-21 European Championship.
