@Emperor, why are you posting at this hour? Did you have some skordalia that has caused heart burn?
As far as I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the decision to play the 4-3-3 was not Oenning's alone. Haristeas was very much apart of the plan and he signed the players he did with that in mind. If that is what they would like to see Aris playing, not only this year but in the future as well, then you cannot abandon it after 4 friendly games. Personally, I don't like it, but if that is what they want to try then I have no choice but to hope it works or be shelved if the men in charge decide it's not working.
I don't know if the player quality is better this year but the quantity definitely is. I was very pleased to see Lopez and Bertoglio score in there first official game as well as seeing the youngster Bagalianis trusted and given significant minutes.

Sure there are beautiful attacks once or twice in every game but all the great teams have one key common component and that's great individual players cause they are the ones that make the difference, this holds true for every team sport. When teams park the bus they aren't many openings and if you don't have the players to break them down with 1 v 1 ability you're not going to have much penetration. This is not anything new with Aris, it's been like that forever. It's inevitable that Aris will drop points to these types of opponents, hopefully it will be less times then the teams fighting for that 4th spot.
This reminds me of the Bulls dynasty here in Chicago when they used to praise the triangle offense and people would come out and say when you have Jordan with the ball in his hands any offense would look good.

Spot on, this is why the level headed German is perfect for this team. He understands the limitations of the roster and plans accordingly. Difference makers cost too much, holding on to Gama and Fetfa was extremely important.

The new season officially begins for Aris this coming Friday against Lamia. I expect this year will be very similar to the two previous one meaning that Aris will be in contention for spots 4 through 6. A lot of new faces but the overall quality is pretty much the same. The one good thing we have going, in my opinion, is Oenning who gives the team much needed stability. If Aris is to climb higher in the standings Lopez, Bertoglio, Hajsafi, Mano and any other attacking players that will join must perform better than the players that left. This of course assumes that Fefta and Gama will have a season similar to 2019-20. Good luck gents.

After today's results Aris is officially a lower seed so luck will be needed this coming Monday in order to avoid some of the bigger names such as Tottenham, Milan, Wolfsburg etc... Fingers crossed.

I’ll be the first to complain about spending too much but this has been a unique offseason for everyone but even more so for Aris because of the ban. Aside from paying someone else’s debt they needed to fill a roster given how many contracts ended. The money spent certainly brings up many questions but at this point I’ll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Woke up to some sad news today, Yiannis Poulopoulos passed. One of my favorite singers. R.I.P.

He was a great addition two years ago and I am glad they extended him. Along with Fetfa they were by far the most dangerous players for Aris this past season and there was no indication that he was deteriorating in any way. I'm hoping they will sign at least one more player with similar abilities to the two above as you can't rely on them alone for another year. I would be remiss if I did not mention that Gama stuck around in June to help Aris during some very trying times.

@almand I agree with your last comment, ultimately players make the team and not the system. However, I still insist that Aris needs more creative players in order to break down teams that will park the bus when playing at Vikelidis. While we all speak of formation change being responsible for the victory yesterday let's keep in mind that the two goals that gave Aris the lead came off of set pieces and not during the run of play. The 3rd goal was nice but came during garbage time when all of Lamia was up looking for an equalizer. Outside of Gama and Fetfa, and time will show of course, I don't know that we have players that can do that. I am encouraged by Bertoglio and impressed with Mancini's heart and effort but I'm not sure if they have the one on one ability to penetrate.
