  1. Oh man you almost had it spot on but you ruined it with Anatolakis.

He would have to be one of the technically poorest players to ever play for Olympiacos. The definition of one dimensional old-school defender would have a photo of Giorgos Anatolakis right under it. He's one of the reasons the club could never win away from home in the early days of the Champions League.

I'd replace Anatolakis with Manolas. I'd also add that kolopaido Nery Castillo on the bench. He had some good moments.

  2. I watched the match in full and we weren't nearly as bad as the negative among us believe. I didn't watch the match live with any sort of anxiety or expectation as I had seen the highlights earlier and read a few reports and when I finally watched the match I saw a lot of positives and clearly the negatives that we all have commented on.

We created numerous chances in that second half and aside from some poor execution and decisions from Vellios, Bakasetas and Gianniotas we could have scored 2 or 3 definite goals. There wasn't the urgency to score more goals which I find odd, so hopefully it won't cost os with goal difference.

It wasn't as depressing as say the match against Northern Ireland in the last campaign.

One thing which needs to be fixed is the errors by the midfield and especially our so-called world class defenders in Sokratis and Manolas. These 2 guys have the ability and physical attributes to be the best defenders in the world but I am afraid they are both as thick as dumbbells. The number of stupid plays they do in any given match is ridiculous. If they had half the intelligence of a Moras then we would rarely concede.

Vellios doesn't deserve any more call ups until he starts scoring and performing regularly for Forrest. In my opinion he has the potential to be a decent target man. I rate him if given decent service and obviously some patience (which we probably don't have). He is just down on confidence and he didn't do himself any favours last night but he is streets better than Papazoglou and Kangaroo Giannou.

Karelis is the player who should have come on and not Vellios so that's on Skibbe.

We've all said it countless times, but Skibbe needs to drop both Tziolis and Maniatis and only pick ONE of them if they are playing regularly. The truth is that he should be looking at Kourbelis or Siopis to take over from these 2 while if Ninis and Tachtsidis are performing then both of these guys should be in the squad.

Some of us need to accept that we are not the team that would play anti-football with a dour defensive mentality. Those days are over and we either move in a new direction or we end up being a mediocre Pot 3 team.

  3. If anyone fears the Bosnians go and watch the match or the highlights. They scored from 2 corners. A non-existant penalty on Dzeko where his own teammate played on because it wasn't a penalty and the other 2 goals from a combination of poor keeping and amateur defending.

Now I know it's not 2004 and we are seriously dire at times at defending but Bosnia aren't getting gifts like that from us nor Cyprus.

I fear the attack and possession of Belgium but there's time to improve provided Skibbe picks the best players.

Karelis would have been perfect as a sub a against Gibraltar. Let's see if Vellios, Tziolis and Maniatis continue in this team.

  4. Amorgos, it's about putting it into perspective.

I watched the press conference the day before the match with Skibbe and Toro and this well spoken Gibraltar journalist asked Skibbe if he felt that this match was a lose/lose.

We win the match but then all the "experts" say yeah of course, but these guys are just students and Street sweepers etc and you only scored 4 and conceded!!!

In retrospect the Gibraltan was very prophetic with his question.

We won, but to some people we lost because we conceded a goal and didn't bang in another 8. Then we get the posters who want to turn Bosnia into 'Brazil 1982' and apparently we will finish behind them in qualifying bla bla bla.

Let's just pause and recall that last qualification campaign we were losing to Faroe fishermen and Hungary couldn't score on these very trawlerman last night!

So does the team need to improve? Absolutely.

Does Skibbe need to consider dropping certain players and look at players who have been performing? Yes, again absolutely.

Let Bosnia think they'll beat us. They bombed out in Euro qualifying too so let's not wish we were them. Also for those pining for Santos' return, I reckon he doesn't even last the qualifiers.

  5. The betting markets had Albania as overwhelming favourites too. Is that how bad the Elpides have been performing?!

If you go through the squad, it's packed with regular first team players and some promising youngsters like Tzanetopoulos and Barkas, Siopis etc

  6. I watched the match in full and to be honest Rockafeller Skank is right, most of the Dutch shots were essentially from outside of the box and the defense was the best it has been in over a year.

Maniatis was good but Samaris owned that midfield at times. He's a class above.

Unlike in Australia, the team didn't fade away and kept a very decent tempo to the match. Even before the goal to the Dutch, we looked comfortable and played attractive football.

The Dutch goal came from a stupid giveaway from Sokratis. Real dumb and boneheaded pass that he and Manolas need to remove from their game. It's these concentration lapses that have made the team look bad the last year.

Netherlands are in essentially the same place we are in. They have a new coach and are transitioning from a talented generation but don't think that they weren't trying or that they were playing their B team. Aside from Depay who's hot and cold, Huntelaar and I'm guessing Cillesen (GK) that's their best squad.

The real surprise is how well Mitroglou played. The guy has been working hard at benfica. He's got a very quick turn of speed and he was hassling the Dutch defenders and although he lost the ball a few too many times like Gianniotas did too, he looked exceptional.

Also Rockafeller Skank, congratulation on finally having sex!

  7. Nick I agree. These are just friendlies, but just to remind those who may not have seen that match against Australia in Melbourne. Hellas literally and metaphorically demolished Australia in that first 30 minutes.

I have never seen pressing like that before. It took Australia nearly 10 minutes to get out of their own half. Hopefully that match is the turning point and after the win tonight we build momentum going in to the real matches.

  8. To change subjects, in anticipation of the season starting, I read that there have been 229 transfers made in the GSL for the 2016/17 season at a total value of 38.58 million Euro.

Most of these transfers were either loan deals or free transfers. To put in to some perspective, over a billion euros was spent on transfers in the EPL. There were a number of individual transfers that were larger than what the entire GSL spent.
