  1. Bento is a coach of dubious merit. The guy has a name as an ex-Portugal international and until being fired and replaced by Santos he was dire for Portugal.

I never liked him but I would be prepared to give him time. Why sack him now?

The 3 managers that Olympiacos have had recently that I do rate and have shown that they have an idea are Valverde, Michel and Jardim.

Jardim was let go because the fans wanted to see "pretty" football and since then he's made a name for himself at Sporting and currently at Monaco where he continues to play CL.

  2. EPO announced that Greece will be playing the Belarus on November 9.

Not a bad friendly as the Belorussians have been improving lately. In their last 3 matches they have beaten Ireland, Norway and a few weeks ago they drew 0-0 in a WC qualifier.

  3. He hasn't impressed Bento.

The truth is that this is possibly a good thing as he was on appearances looking a bit too complacent and if he was believing all the press, it was getting to his head.

So he has been working hard in training to improve his game and to convince Bento. Let's see if he comes back better than he has been.

  4. Karnezis cops 2 second half goals. The last one in the 95th minute and Udinese lost 1-2 at home to Chievo.

Not really to blame as his teammates were poor. Bad defending and no midfield kept inviting Chievo to attack. Especially from the right side were the 2 goals came from.

Karnezis is too good for this Udinese team.

  5. This isn't just limited to Greece.

In Italy, Romania, Ukraine and Russia owners also court attention.

Berlusconi used his exposure as AC Milan owner amongst other ventures to launch his political campaign.

In any case, Kougias is no different to a thug like Melissanidis but where Meli has his hired goons do the dirty work in private, Kougias was photographed.

  6. I agree with you Tzatziki.

There are some exceptions but look at all the club owners in Greece and they are all over the media and make their presence known.

Asteras Tripolis owners are possibly lower-key than Kougias, Melissanidis, Marinakis, Alafouzos and Ivan for example.

  7. Exactly Nick. A striker also needs to get in positions to score the tap in and as yet he's failed at that.

He has the penchant for the spectacular strike. He showed that last season at Iraklis but he needs to do more than firing karaboles although if that's all he's good at it's an impressive trait.

  8. I don't condone what Kougias did post-match. It reflects poorly on Greek football and narrow minded idiot types will say this is what Greek society is like which is a massive generalisation but Degra is a total stuff up.

He was a disaster at Asteras. They should never have signed at Larisa so they got what they deserved.

  9. The kits look really good. The yellow and black stripes is very distinctive and the new logo is bold and the black strip is worth getting for the historical image in the numbers.

The "fuchsia" is a straight rip off of Asteras's third kit from 2 seasons ago though.

No wonder they got Bakasetas to model it, he used to wear it! Asteras also reverted to a similar colour for this year's 2nd strip but it has a bit of black in it and looks more modern (in my opinion).
