  1. Marcus Berg about to sign a new deal with Panathinaikos! http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/internationell/grekland/article23554194.ab I translate the key facts of the swedish article below: The current contract, that expire 2018 is about to be extended to 2019 according to the desire of coach Stramaccioni. The current contract is worth 6 M SEK (app. 600000 euro), and the extension will give Berg app 800- 900000 euro plus bonuses. The reporter asks if Marcus has any intension of coming home to Gothenburg to end his career and that is his desire but not at this moment. He and his family are extremly happy in Athens. When asked about another club in Europe his answer is: "Nothing is written in stone just because you sign a new contract but everbody knows how happy me and my family are here. At the same time I have been open and listened to other clubs, but to switch what I have here demands something extra. Quality of life, economical & football wise"

  2. I wouldnt consider Donis and Karamanos (Guy who plays at Feirense and has already scored 3 goals in 5 matches) as suitable. Remember that what cost us under Ranieri is the multiple changes. I like the fact that Skibbe tends to use Maitroglou Karelis Vellios and Diamantakos up front. I hope Bakasetas doesn't get played as a winger again because the guy simply doesnt cut it. With Samaris missing and Maniatis/Tziolis not being able to be starters due to no team I'd guess we have to see new persons in the midfield. And by new, I mean players we havent seen under Skibbe previously. Some ex-players who might reappear , and probably will are going to be Tachtsidis and Kone, who both got playing time in the previous weeks. Hoever not sure if Kone got what it takes to be a 8ari-6ari since he is mostly an offensive player. Karnezis Torosidis-Manolas-Sokratis-Cholebas Tachtsidis - Kone/Siopis Gianniotas- Fortounis- Mantalos Mitroglou

  3. Whilst we have a big squad in theory, it is clear who the main 1st team players are and who the squad/Fringe players are. A good coach will always know his best 11 and who to bring in based on requirements. Rotation for rotations sake is a recipe for disaster. The team needs cohesion and this can only be achieved by players playing together regularly. I am all for tweaking game to game, which is what Ivic seems to be doing btw, rather than wholesale changes, which is what Huub Stevens did and stuffed us. Save that for cup games against village teams.

  4. From watching his past 4 games it seems like he's much more clinical with his volleys and touches. Seems like anything he fires has a chance to score. He is at his peak right now

  5. Beating Holland in a friendly is like beating Estonia in a WC qualifier, points-wise. That is why we barely moved up. Hope we can get some wins lined-up, because some of these teams ahead of us in the rankings are embarassing, including Albania.
