Reports: Javtokas to Panathinaikos?

Hi,

First post here. I usually post on a San Antonio Spurs NBA board, but I came here looking for information.

There have been reports in the USA that Lithuanian forward Robertas Javtokas will be signing with Panathinaikos. Have there been any reports of this in the Greek media?

Signing Butler and Elson to offer sheets could come at the expense of Robertas Javtokas, the Spurs' 2001 second-round draft pick. The Spurs had projected the 6-11 Javtokas to be their backup center before negotiations broke down this week.

Javtokas signed with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos, said Herb Rudoy, Javtokas' agent.

"Robertas was very disappointed," Rudoy said. "He expected to have serious negotiations, and they didn't want to make him a serious offer.

"It's a shame because we thought this was the summer (for him to come to the NBA)."

Spurs officials declined comment except to say they haven't given up hope of restarting negotiations with Javtokas if they don't get either Butler or Elson. Rudoy did say that Javtokas has until Friday to get out of his Greek contract, after which he would have to wait until next summer.

Thanks for any replies. Spurs fans are jumping out of high windows at the thought of him coming to Greece instead of to San Antonio.

ive heard about it...not sure if its true.

why would people jump out at losing a backup center....

what do 'yall' know about him thats such bad news? was he even going to play for SA or just ride the bench because a lot of foreign players are instantly overlooked in the NBA and dont get the chances they deserve..

Spurs have lost both their 1st and 2nd choice centres already this off-season (one by trade, one by free agency). Fans have been excited by a video of RJ highlights on youtube and are hoping his athleticism would work well for the Spurs (who they believe lacked rebounding and dunking aggression last year). Luis Scola of TAU in Spain was drafted by the Spurs but can't join them for money reasons. This has disapppointed fans, who have great hopes for him. After this RJ was reported in many sourcres as a sure thing to join the Spurs, but instead he seems to be joining Panathinaikos. Spurs fans are afraid of having no good centre at all, so some are panicking.
