Recommended Posts

Wolves defender Mark Clyde is the only upcapped player in the Northern Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Wales.

But manager Lawrie Sanchez has left out Bristol City skipper Tomy Doherty.

Northern Ireland launch their Group Six campaign at home to the Poles on 4 September before facing Wales in Cardiff four days later.

Sunderland's George McCartney is suspended for the Poland match but can play against Wales.

McCartney was sent-off in Northern Ireland's last competitive game which was against Greece in the final qualifier for Euro 2004.

Clyde had been named in previous Northern Ireland squads but pulled out because of injury.

Chris Baird, who missed the 0-0 draw against Switzerland in Zurich, has recovered from injury and is included in the 23-man panel.

Michael Hughes, Jeff Whitley and Phil Mulryne are also back after missing the Swiss trip.

Portadown striker Gary Hamilton is the only Irish League player named.

The game against Poland will be Sanchez's first competitive match in charge.

I hope Lawrie chooses Stuart Elliot to partner Healy up front.

Imo, Andy Smith is not yet at the level of international play. Maybe he can be used v. Azerbaijan to gain some more experience. He shouldn't be used as a regular...

It seems every Glentoran (or ex-Glentoran) player has a kid brother playing for Dundela!  :P

You are very much correct in what you have said here Irlandos.

Dundela's ground, which is Wilgar Park, is more affectionately known as the Hen Run. This name came about in part because down through the years Dundela has been a kind of 'nursery' to younger/developing players that almost always end up playing for those bigger clubs.
