athinaios
Tzigger decade was a disaster... And, he never protected the club while he was prez. Typical rich playboy. I'm afraid the club will end with an ineffective prez that will be Tzigger's puppert. What would have happened if the team had finished 4th?... At least they renewed Noblias' contract and there will be some kind of a planning. But, do they have a budget set?
pao123
its sad to say athinaios but i think the dream we all had for pao two years ago is quickly dieing...

athinaios
This is great news that Noblias is staying. He can work on planning for the next season now. By the way, if he's coming to NYC, I know a few people who might be interested, so if anyone has info on this please post. I read somewhere that he's been invited by PAO fans in NY. True? athinaios
Honestly, either I'm so far removed from Greek reality or I'm overly sensitive... But, the behavior and rhetoric exhibited by all interested parties (stock owners & upper management) is way too immature. They behave like big spoiled rich brats, playing to an audience of the lowest common denominator. I don't know what these people do in their private companies and in the business world, but in the court of public opinion they are trying to be "manges" and showoffs... Very dissappointing to see this. One thing for sure, the club can't build on this season's success with this kind of turbulence. :1eye:
pao123
it looks as though carlos freitas will become our new technical director...i would have rather had someone greek or even kept antoniou...he seemed to improve last term and in my opinion, a winning formula should not be changed.. with this in mind, i dont really know how freitas' resume looks so i cant really judge whether its a good move or a bad one....all i know is that he was working for braga these last two or so years and they turned into a decent team in portugal...they finished 5th two seasons ago and 2nd last year.. Alex1908
Like Greek society, the Greek business world operates on the basis of inter-personal connections, and egocentrism. Greek professional football has, since its beginning in 1979, relied on strong personalities and their circle of friends and supporters rather than any strong sense of corporate ethos. The attempt at "polymetoxikotita" was a bold attempt to overcome the old practices, we are witnessing its public dismantlement through a return to the personalist way of doing things. The public soap opera aside, we are merely reverting to how things were. And the selection of a foreign technical director ensures loyalty to the president and no personal connections of favors owed to others. After all the dust settles, will we see a more activist and savvier Tzigger?
thrylos
Thank god Nioblias is staying...looks like things are not quite imploding. Hopefully they'll get their act together sooner than later.Nioblias should leave for his own good.WTF man, PAO has a chance of building a mini dynasty right now with the management and player team they have assembled. Look for them to want to bring in "their" players and for the team to regress. Greek soccer is CRAP. Olympiakos goes through 3 coaches in one year. Fire the best one b/c the players don't like them. PAO gets rid of the management that build this team to bring in new management that will bring in new players.
Alex1908
"Greek Soccer is Crap" ? Yup, I would not argue with that. But as the saying goes, you follow the soccer you have not the one you might want or wish to have. And you can always watch the EPL and La Liga at the same time. :)

The exception being when I want to be a good son and my dad invites me over then I go to keep him company. The sad thing is, people in Greece are losing interest. Two good friends of mine, PAO supporters, are tired of the way things are and are no longer going to the games.
athinaios
The comments here raise an important question about the longevity of the sport in Greece. All clubs lose money. This means that they are (and will always be) personal tsifliks of rich & spoiled men who pump in their own money to obtain bragging rights and have greater exposure in Greek society. The frequent and absurd violence has turned away many people who have many other choices nowadays for entertainment.

pao123
however long tzigger is the majority shareholder of the club we wont see true long term advancement in the club...in the past two years we have taken 5 steps forward and then in 2 months we just took 10 steps back... it is july now and we have no permanent president, no idea what our investment will be and we JUST signed our new technical director...and we have not signed or sold anyone yet (with the excpetion of darlas, who was just let go and not sold) luckily we have a coach and a good base of players otherwise i would say we are doomed... i wish the management would see that its time to shape up..tzigger just needs to let go and sell the team already... pao123
and our new president is......politician Nikos Konstantopoulos this guy knows nothing about sport and football..how is he suppose to go down to the trainings and speak with the team? what is he going to say to them? he was elected bc he is a happy medium between the vardinogianni and giannakopoulo families what is he suppose to bring to the table? OUST TZIGGER!!! POULA KAI FYGE! i think we could have made a better decision...lets see who they set up around him, that could be the deciding factor of our success or failures... the good news is that he seems close to the team and some of our old players and people surrounding the club..at first glance i was unhappy but after letting it settle i think i will wait to see what comes of this and regardless, i think everyone should still stand firm beside the club

You'll see. thats pretty obvious...the above comment was not meant to be degrading thrylo. sorry if it comes across that way all good....i'm just tired of the BS that is Greek sport at the moment. PAO had a great thing going and they mess it up (you'll see) OSFP had a chance to go forward with youth and Marinakis is messing that up trying to IMPRESS the fans. AEK won't sell Skoko to PAO or OSFP...Why not? I mean Liverpool is going to sell Torres to Chelsea. That is why I want to see Ninis and others like him leave Greece. There is no future for them there. It is all political.
Alex1908
BS in Greek sport? Could not agree more! But it is still interesting trying to figure it out. Here is an interesting comment on Constantopoulos by a serious Greek journalist, though I fear it has been translated not very well from Greek: Crossing boundaries By Nikos Xydakis The appointment of Nikos Constantopoulos as the new president of Panathinaikos soccer club came as a big surprise. An ex-leader of left-wing Synaspismos, a former deputy, renowned criminologist, member of the resistance movement during the 1967-74 military dictatorship and an emblematic figure of the socialist left in the post-junta period, Constantopoulos is one of the last people you would expect to see at the helm of a Greek soccer club.
