  1. Di Marzio reported that Samaras is heading for a medical at Sampdoria on Tuesday. Assuming no surprises, football-wise this is a very good next step for Samaras after a forgettable season. http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/samaras-will-take-medical-with-sampdoria-on-tuesday/ Now Mitroglou, Kone and Lazaros need to get sorted!
  2. Yeah MLS would actually be quite cool! NASL would be like becoming an ex-footballer. Any Greek Superleage team is a vastly better choice.
  3. Seems to have impressed coming off the bench for Fulham on Saturday against Crystal Palace. Odd to see him in a Fulham kit. I wouldn't mind seeing him there until January and perhaps proving his value for the January transfer market.
  4. He'd be mad to go to the NASL. It least at Al Hilal there was a proper league with proper stadiums and Asian Champions League football. If we thought that was a backwater, then what is the NASL? If the Samp offer has indeed stalled, Bursaspor is a much better option than the bleeding New York Cosmos!
  5. Oh man...after Samdoria's horrible display yesterday if I were Samaras' agent I might be calling Ivan Savvidis to see just how interested PAOK really was :-) Seriously though, despite the probable lack of Europa Laegue play, Samp is still a good move.
  6. Let's just see....A year there starting every game could be the confidence builder he needs. It's not ideal, but it doesn't need to be a disaster either. The Saudi league has a higher profile than it had even a couple of years ago. It obviously wasn't happening for him in Italy so he did need a change.
  7. Samdoria (if it happens) would be great. Last year was a write-off due to lack of fitness (rumor of pneumonia while at WBA) and injuries. If he does play in a two striker formation he may do well. As we all know he looks like a target man but he is not. He is a decent passer and his assist numbers are not bad. When healthy he played a bit deeper at AL Hilal than you would expect for an out and out striker and did well linking play and creating chances. A technical league like Serie A could work - at least in Italy how much one runs around won't be the main criteria of how committed the player is!
  8. That is excellent news! Looking forward to a big season from him.
  9. ^^^ Fair enough. Still the point is 'dropped' or not, it's not a good record. And I'm a fan (as uncool as that is around here!) who still thinks he has a lot to offer at the club and NT level, IF he finds the right club and does it soon. Another lost preseason does him no favours. He needs to catch on somewhere where he can contribute. Based on the list of teams he is no longer with its hard to see what the right place would be.
  10. Sampdoria would be a good fit. I'm wondering however if this is a recycling of the 2014 rumor that has Samaras heading there. So far I've only seen one source that seems to be cited for this. Lots of talk now... Twitter nonsense about Coventry (3rd tier) right now. There were a couple of good discussions about where Samaras fits into the plans of the top 4 Greek clubs on Sport24.gr. The bottom line being that Sami is now open to going to Greece and while there is some moderate interest in him, all the top clubs have other priorities ahead of him. For a guy who has been dropped by four teams in the space of 13 months (Celtic, WBA, Al Hilal and the Ethniki) Sampdoria would be a very fortunate result.
  11. If this works out it might be the best possible scenario for Mitroglou. Freedom from Fulham and potential for the Champions League group stages. How well would he fit into the Portugese league?
  12. ^ In his People Greece interview last week he indicated that he was in contact with clubs that are discussing multi-year offers. Who knows? Getting a mutual release may be a necessary first step to moving on....or it could mean he's washed up!
  13. WBA contract terminated by mutual consent (he had one yr left). Hopefully this will allow him to find a club quickly.
  14. http://www.sport24.gr/football/EllinesExoterikou/otan-gonatise-o-samaras.3570672.html Look like he has offers and is recovered....hopefully!
  15. There is no decision. This is just Twitter speculation that the Birmingham Mail reported on as a possibility. Wherever he does end up (if anywhere) likely won't be much more inspiring.
  16. I'd be very surprised is there is any truth to this. This is likely just Twitter speculation that got picked up and turned into a story by the local paper in Birmingham England desperate for a WBA story. If there is any truth to this, it is a foolish move, any situation where he is expected to carry a team will probably disappoint. Why care? I think the NT can use him to help qualify for Russia. Sami and Holebas on the left side don't score goals but they make things happen and we have had little of that. At 30 and 31 they are not long term solutions but could provide what we need in the next 2-3 years. That won't happen if he goes to Australia to become the butt of jokes.
  17. I think we more or less agree...I don't think he deserves to walk into the top 5 leagues based on the last two seasons of play. Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, the English Football League Championship might be more appropriate. I think that even in these leagues that he might not be able to crack the lineup in the top teams. I think a mid level team where he might surprise and impress might be good. I do see where you are coming from though - it would be great to see him at a club like Porto or Ajax, I just don't know if he would thrive.
  18. He was at a music video awards show last night. Either he has something lined up or he doesn't care and will do nothing until January like Akritis said. What he needs is to sign with a mid level club in a mid-level league and to do it asap. Somewhere where he will get playing time (unlike WBA) and where he won't be expected to be the star player (unlike Al-Hilal). Surely there must be loads of teams that fit that bill. If not he should beg to be taken back by Celtic or perhaps PAOK or PAO.
