Injury - day to day, Sokratis had been suspended for yellow cards

Background: Both parents born in Greece. I was born and raised in NY.
Did your parent(s) teach you Greek/Do you speak Greek? Went to Greek school till 8th grade. Yes.
Education: Masters in Accounting/CPA
Friend groups: Mixed but do hang out with a lot of Greek
Greek influence in daily life: Follow Greek Sports, get my daily frappe from a greek café, drop off my son at greek school every morning
Other half (wife/girlfriend - did you stay Greek or go abroad?): Italian (very similar to us)
Favourite part of Greece: All of it is great, love Santorini, Kalamata is where the family is. Really cool place...
The last time you went to Greece: Try to go every other year, summer of 2015.

Tzavellas, Tachtsidis, Samaris, K Paps and Karellis are all out.....
I was impressed how we were playing defensively, the boys were intercepting passes, pressing the whole game, which is not easy considering they were chasing the ball ....At the end, they played a great game considering the circumstances, Greece looks like a team again, soooo much better than the euro qualifiers.....what Greece lacks is an outlet for the counter, a burner who can really get past the defense...Imagine an Aubameyang on this team (granted there is only a handful of them in this world..)
Mitro looked good, he had one chance and he made it, the way he timed his run was great, he got past his man and took a great shot to get past the gk...

In US, if you have FIOS, channel 1524 (I believe Univision deportes? - in spanish) and FSC2 will replay at 10pm

I agree that we need his passion but there is a fine line between passion and stupidity. Kara had passion but also a level head, he was aware of how his actions would impact the team. Kpaps (who for the record I think is good and has the potential to be great) is too emotional right now. There was no reason why he should have gotten that red card, if anyone should have retaliated, it should have been Sokratis. Sokratis knew that getting into an altercation would not help and did not retaliate.

I would imagine it would be Kapino if fit, he is supposed to play this weekend...
-
I know Sokratis got injured during the Benfica game, didn't play this weekend...Does anyone know how long he is out for???
-
Karnezis picked up a hand injury over the weekend, may be out for 2 weeks (missing the Belgium match)...not sure how good our options are now...

Can't dispute the rankings, they are based on results over the previous four or five years, anyone can calculate the rankings. The subjectivity that used to prop up certain countries has been removed. There may be a certain bias towards European countries based on the fact most of the top rated countries are European (you can score more points against better opposition). Numbers don't lie!!!

You can hardly call the US economy a total mess. 2008 was a total mess, 2017 is quite different. Arguably, we are, economically, in one of the best positions in the world. Our unemployment rate are at record lows, our stock market at record highs. Not sure what "mess" means to you. Regarding our foreign policy, there are things we need to change but if anything, we are less safe today than we were 3 months ago.

His last two games have been average to poor but that goes for the entire team. On the whole, Sokratis has had the better year.

Some are speculating that the Greek boat retreated further into Greek waters so to make clear the violation from the Turkish coast guard...

It's a dangerous game to play. The wall will not be paid by Mexicans under a tariff system but by Americans whose buying power shrank due to the increase cost of those products.

Similar to Kyrgiakos in Liverpool, the guy was a fan favorite, they loved him there!!

Not that old, in my 30s....I am also sure the experience in Kalamata would be different that the one in Athens. I do agree that kids today do have other distractions, but they still like going to games.
-
When you say they deserve it? Who are you referring to? The kids that dream to play for PAO or OLY? The dad who takes their son to a game on a random Sunday afternoon? While some owners are crooks, let's not destroy the league. I still remember my dad taking my brother and I to a friendly game in Kalamata when I was 10 years old. I remember the score, Kalamata lost 2-0 to Olympiakos Bolou, I remember the goals, I remember the stands. My point is that soccer in every country serves a purpose, unfortunately right now it is in a decline. What's not in a decline - Dad's who want to make memories with their kids, children who will remember these memories with their dad long after their dad has passed away. We are all frustrated with how things are but destroying the league is not the answer.

A close friend of mine who is Portuguese and an avid Benfica fan told me Benfica is fond of Samaris. They view him as a good player who has a great attitude in the locker room. They are on the fence if they should sell him or not.
-
He was promising as an 18 year old. He was the player of the tournament for the U19 tourney where Greece made it to the finals. To say he didn't have potential would be unfair. We can all agree that he didn''t progress much as he matured into his 20s.

I think what we all want is Greece in general to do well in Europe. Wishing for another Greek team to lose in the CL/Europa is only hurting yourself bc it will make it that much harder to automatically qualify. I'm a PAO fan (blame my dad...lol) but I would love it of OLY won Europa. Does that make me any less of a PAO fan? That makes me a Greece fan 1st and the club affiliation. Would it make you more proud if a Real (or any Spanish team won) over OLY? Are there things that need to be fixed in the league? Absolutely. But killing the league is not the solution. People that are constantly complaining about the league and want it shut down are not contributing anything. People that recognize the issues and are championing really life solutions, those are the ones that should be listened to. Bc at the end of the day, Greece needs the SL. It gives kids hope, it lets them dream. Why take that away??? This post was not meant to criticize anyone here, just a general statement.

I remember watching him play Benfica in the CL when he was with Schalke. He was playing as a def mid, he was everywhere that game. I remember thinking that he was going to be one of the top defensive players in the game, sadly he has had quite a few setbacks since then.
-
More of a moderate, more likely to vote Republican though. He does scare me, the one thing that I find solace in is that he does tend to flip flop. I believe all the things he said during the campaign were for the cameras and not how he will actually govern. I believe he will defer a lot to his administration. The fact that he even had a meeting for Mitt Romney should be encouraging, especially for such a senior position.

He has had his moments for the national team, nonetheless, he is the best option we have right now.
-
Regarding Kyriakos, while he is only playing sparingly for his team, he is coming back from a year of some serious injuries. When he was at Schalke, he was rated as one of the top young defensemen in the world. After being out for most of last year, he needs to gain some form. I do believe his valuation was around 15 million euros, hardly a bad player.

Listened to the game and the Greek commentators were constantly praising Donis, how his presence have the team an outlet which was missing when Bakasetas was in. Hopefully he will get more chances to play.
