  1. Anybody heard the rumour about Giannakopoulos wanting to come back??

He'll probably leave in the summer, but why Oly? He wouldn't get in the team.

Aris are reported to be interested, and that would be a much better move for him.

  2. Yes but we have to remember that the defences at the Euros will be much more organized than Motherwell's. I mean just look at the goal the conceded against Samaras & you'll see why I rate the Scottish league (apart from the top 2) as the same level with Cyprus.

Has Samaras ever scored from a corner against a good team? In fact, has Samaras ever scored any sort of goal against a good team because I can't remember one.

Dude I agree with you that the scottish league sucks. But give the guy a break. Motherwell had a completly unorganised D but he did well to find get the ball and finish it easily.

What to see a nice goal agastn a good team?

Check this one out vs West Ham

What do you got agasnt him? :P

In DUDE's defence West Ham were not a good side last year. They only survived relegation by 3 points.
  3. i don't think the issue of samaras adding muscle to his frame is debatable. no one here is wanting samaras to compete in mr. universe. if samaras wishes to add some 8-10 lbs /4-4.5 kilos/3/4 of a stone (i beleive) of muscle, it can certainly happen, under the guidance of club trainers and nutritionists.

I have no doubt that he can add muscle, but I because of his naturally small frame that muscle won't make much of a difference to him. He's tall and slight, he'll never be strong, whatever he does. So he needs to become more explosive in his game (which is a type of fitness in itself).
  4. I think you all approach this from 2 extremes, either that he's realllly talented (AEK66) or completely useless (DUDE).

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of his and I don't think he can just bulk-up, he's got a naturally small frame and however much he works out he'll always be weak (relative to other pro-athletes that he competes against), yes he may improve slighlty, but nothing too drastic.

On the other hand, he's not completely useless. He's better than Tumer, Koke and Radzinski re DUDE, don't undermine the kid too much.

As for Crouch, he's not great at heading but he's great at jumping. As since people seem to like talking about championship manager on here :P he might be rated 20 (the max) for jumping, and a 15 for heading. But if that's the case Samaras would be a 15 for jumping and and 13 for heading. He's tall but he doesn't make runs ahead of the defender for example. Samaras never meets the ball, he jumps up, if it hits him on the head then so be it.

Look how in of none of these Shearer headers does he out-muscle a defender, yet Samaras wouldn't have scored any of them. It's because he doesn't have the explosion nor tactical know-how, to make that last second explosive sprint to get ahead of the defender:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoYI2A0FJdg (sorry for not puting the video up directly, i don't know how to do it). - Note by moderator: Instructions on how to post YouTube Movies have been posted here

So he's not just weak but lethargic and although he can't bulk-up too much he can work on explosive-cardiovascular training combined with tactical running. But it's up to him or his coaches to identify that. Therefore in my humble opinion AEK66 is overrating him and AEKROSSOPONTI is way off when saying he'd be one of the best in Greece. But DUDE is also overlooking his potential, he's potentially a very good forward and has more potential than many other Greek forwards who might currently be better than him, like Choutos or Salpiggidis for instance. Whether he fulfils that potential is a different matter because we've been talking this kid up for a while and he isn't progressing at an acceptable rate, but he can do it if he has the right people around him.

  5. Big game this week for Arsenal and Utd. Unless Arsenal bring in some defensive quality they'll never be able to cope with Utd's attack. It's a shame because Arsenal are actually a better football team in my opinion, they just are as assurred as they should be in defence.

Should be exciting though. I'm guessing Utd will win 2-1.

  6. How can we be signing players when we dont know who the coach is. Doesnt the coach have a say in his roster.

In Europe the coach doesn't actually buy the players, the director of football does. In England it's always the coach. So this is a European set-up with Ivic buying and the coach, coaching.
  7. If torosidis stays he will be guarenteed a starting position. He is the best player on our team and will be one of the best next year. So its all about where the coach wants him. If the coach wants him as a right wing midfielder, then he will play there and galitsios will be on the right back. I doubt if everyone is health we will see toro in the center mid though. Toro will most likly be the starter at right back and galitsios can be a solid back up.

No I meant Galitsios. Is Galitsios going to be a 1st team player?

Oh just saw your last line... so he'll be on the bench.

  8. What will the reactions of the fans if we sign Ivan? Lol. Nothing matters at this point. We all know the type of rumors these are. Odds are its more crap, especailly since its this early. BUt you never know, I thought belluchi wasnt going to come.

I would like to sign a Center defence first. That should be our priority. Then a left winger and a striker. All three are huge priorites. Djole and Kova are done as starters and we all konw how bad our defence is.

Dont forget, We signed Gallitsios from larissa and he is comming in the summer.

I haven't seen too much of Galitsios, how good is he?

Will he be a guranteed starter? If so will we see Torosidis move to centre-midfield?

  9. how come everton beat zenit then ??

the german and spanish teams in that list forget about, and with the exception of milan the other 3 italian teams won't touch the prem teams

So are you telling me that those 4 prem teams are better than those 4 german sides?

And how long's it been since you've seen Udin & Sampdoria?

Sorry mate but i think you've got a serious case of Premiership-propaganda disease! :P

  10. Lets have the "party" started.Already the season is not over yet and we have the first names out already. We dont have a coach but someone is or likes to bring players anyhow.Clayton of Larisa seems to be the hot name of the day that apparently AEK had for sure,Olympiakos waited untill our game against them last sunday to witness how good that guy is,even tho we hear his name the last 2-3 years. Also Benfica is being said by his manager has showned some interest and every newspaper in greece, depending team preferences has the player ready to go either yellow or red.The next name is Sotiris Kurgiakos, plays in Germany and as with Clayton,he is coming to our team for 2-3 years now.For him we might have to battle some german and greek teams for.Papadopoulos of Aris is the next name and he does not seem to want to sign with his current club and he would be happy coming to our club but we also have no reports of any official offer by Olympiakos or anyone else. The last name of the day is the funniest of all,Andreas Ivanschic, yes the Pao player.Apparently an Austrian newspaper,"Kurier",is reporting that Olympiakos has contacted Saltsburg, the team that the player actually belongs to and holds his rights, and asked for what price they can sign the player. His team wants to keep him in Austria but the player does not so this time they would like to sell the player instead of giving him on loan.Pao,Olympiakos,Manchester City and Espaniol are so far the teams competing.

I would be delighted with every single one of those transfers, including Ivan.

What will the fan-reaction be if we sign Kiriakos though?

  11. 5th 6th 7th 8th place in england are better than the same positions in any other league because they have greater spending power

    As the league's stand:

    England:

    5 Everton

    6 Portsmouth

    7 Aston Villa

    8 Blackburn

    Italy:

    5 AC Milan

    6 Sampdoria

    7 Udinese

    8 Genoa

    Spain:

    5 Racing Santander

    6 Sevilla

    7 Espanyol

    8 Athletic Bilbao

    Germany:

    5 VfB Stuttgart

    6 Bayer Leverkusen

    7 Wolfsburg

    8 Eintracht Frankfurt

With the exception of Spain (who have had a very unusual season with Valencia, Getafe, Osasuna and Zaragoza having had a poor season), the Premiership's 5th-8th is worse than all of the above leagues. And since you bring spending power into the equation, yes these Prem sides spend more which shows how comparatively useless they are. Zenit would hammer any of those English sides, I'm pretty sure our top 3 in Greece would also beat them, while Aris & Larissa could give them a good game. So spending-power doesn't mean anything if the buyer is ignorant.

  12. 2 points to make here firstly the english teams did not get battered in the uefa cup bolton are about to be relegated and rested players for their uefa cup matches in order to concentrate on premier league survival and still beat atletico madrid and norrowly lost to sporting.everton got knocked out on penalties and tottenham(11th in england) lost on penalties to the leaders of the dutch league and current dutch champions.

second point outside of the top 4 you're right no one for 10 years will win the EPL(well top 3 because liverpool will never win it) but its exactly the same in every other league in europe. when was the last team to win the greek league outside of pao oly or aek ?? lyon in france will real or barca fail to win la liga ? in italy when did serie a go to a team other than milan inter or juve ?

Mate Bolton only rested players in the game against Sporting (while against Aris Anelka was on the bench, but came on), so they did not play a 2nd team. Also, Bolton only became a relegation-level side after Anelka left, so apart from the Atletico result (which was amazing) they didn't do anything.

What did Tottenham do? They beat 2nd rate teams, got a shot at PSV, were lucky not to cop 5 at the Lane, then they put in a rugged performance to fight their way back into the tie but deserved to go out.

Blackburn were dominated and humiliated by a Larissa team pre- Zurawski and Metin.

Everton were the only team that did really well imo.

You have to place the debate into context, it's not that these teams were "battered" as such, but rather that they came from England, so you expect them to do better. So the English top 4 are much better than others' top 4, but from there down they aren't.

(I'm not saying I agree with this argument, because i think the british style is very dangerous which enables them to compete, but i'm just explaining the view that english teams didnt do well in the uefa cup this year)

  13. Well with Liverpool and Chelsea through to the semis the English dominance continues as we're guaranteed an English team in the final. And with Man Utd in the form they're in who would bet against an all-English final?

  14. Then Arsenal, managed by the most anti-English bloke I know,

Wenger isnt anti english, he just doesnt want to pay an inflated price for average players. How much would Clichy, Toure, Adebayor, Van Persie, and so on cost if they were English?

People love to critise this cup but if the big guns were up for it, the cup would look less boring than it is now.

The big clubs are up for it, but the lesser-reputed teams are better. Zenit are an excellent side with excellent players. Arshavin would get into any team in the Premiership while Zyrianov would be at someone like Spurs or Pompey, etc. Dont let the names fool you; names dont win games. If I'd told you Vidic was the best centre-back in the world when he was at Fiorentina, most people would have laughed. Now no one would laugh. If I'd told you Stoichkov was among the best strikers in the world when he was at CSKA Sofia most people would have laughed, etc.

The financial dominance of English football will backfire one day, just as in Italy. This season, Bournemouth, Luton Town, Rotherham and to some extent Leeds went through administration. In the SPL, Gretna could have simply closed down without the season being over! Their attendance was a joke (last game, 431, a record low!). At the end of the day, the sooner the lower clubs will invest in grassroot football, the better.

I disagree, the big spending backfired in Italy because they were spending beyond their means. Arsenal and Liverpool have a strict budget, while Man Utd spend big, but wisely. Chelsea spend crazily but Abramovich will hardly run out of cash. By buying success as it were the Premiership has become the most watched league in the world, and it isn't just the big 4 that benefit from the TV money. As for the lower teams like Luton, Leeds, etc. Yes they've had money problems, but compare the quality of lower league football in England to the quality of lower league football in Italy, France, Spain, etc.

So smile mate, the English football's future is bright! :D
