  1. Chris is it possible that this said brothel doesn't accept cheques though?

Very few businesses in this day and age accept these promissory notes. For example let's say we hand over this blank cheque, we try and "score" with the lady or ladies then go on our merry way. The madam of the brothel tries to bank the cheque the next day, however it ultimately "bounces". We technically didn't pay for the service so the brothel business is out of pocket.

I'm not sure where I was going with this...you put me off with the cheque in a brothel metaphor.

  2. The article above is probably closer to reality than a lot the crap that passes itself off as expert analysis. Many people making tenuous links about some Orthodox "Brotherhood" between Greece and Russia. Apparently serious media organisation's like the BBC for example, but what I haven't seen mentioned at all is that Tsipras and many in his government are ATHEISTS!

Nothing to see here. There's no Orthodox brotherhood. Building better relationships with all sovereign nations is the goal. Foster trade, energy supplies between us and Russia etc. Possibly try to strengthen our hand in negotiations with the EZ and ECB but not aligning ourselves with the wrong Cold War power and asking for handouts.

Apparently both sides deny that Greece asked for a loan. So it never happened anyway but there's still speculation in the English media.

  3. I read 9 years of posts to get to the most recent one and tbh I think Samaras will probably go down in history as an underachiever. I called it in 2010 but I think I was more disappointed that he never kicked on after Manchester City at the time.

He'll be remembered by the diehard Celtic fans and obviously in Greece but there will always be a touch of unfulfilled promise for me.

  4. Hi all. I'm "EarlyMan" from gs.com.

I've had an account on phantis since 2005 so instead of creating a new account I opted to keep my original account. I had over 1000 posts since I started.

Good to see many of you on here. Red sheriff, SOFC57, AEK66, Pash, GrkCdn, Amorgos, Pana97, GrkMikey, et al (and I do mean wveryone) but lastly that little annoying twerp Taxman who gave me the inspiration for my EarlyMan username for his comparison of Maniatis to a caveman. Which from memory was inspired by AEK66 referring Maniatis as the "Palestinian".

  5. Back as Markarian's assistant? I think that's horrible. He was merely Otto's translator.

I can't see how having Kats in the side, Karagounis as Technical Director (selecting Vydra, Kats, Karabelas) and now a guys who's done nothing since he left with Otto in 2010 is setting us up for Euro 2016 qualification and more importantly the future!

  6. Agreed. Stelios did great in the premiership.

Dabizas played in an FA Cup final and had over 100 apperances and a handful of goals for Newcastle so he wasn't that bad. I think the Newcastle teams he played with were not as good as the big clubs.

Moras doesn't have a lot of time to impress. his contract is only until January so I hope for his sake he does well.

  7. Came on in the 84th minute against Aston Villa on the weekend.

He replaced Tim Cahill and according to an Everton FC Fan site he did have an impact:

"Everton did go close again when substitute Vellios got on to a poor back pass but could only watch his effort go wide. "

Let's hope he continues with his development. The NT needs a striker!

  8. Am I hating or speaking the truth? We all had a big discussion about whether Celtic wanted him or not. He's warming the bench and they've just bought another striker, knocking him further down the pecking order. He has a chance to move to a respectable Ligue 1 club and instead he prefers to stay at Celtic to collect a bigger pay cheque. Sorry, he deserves to be criticised. The lazy bum can't get into a team no better than Aris but still the dominant team in a ridiculously poor league and he's too lazy to make an impact. He also shows no ambition in leaving the club. His own fans are booing him. Club legends are ridiculing him, yet i'm the bad guy for laughing that he CHOOSES to sit on the bench?

What you posted is fair enough.

I think for anyone to criticise you on your views they are blind to the truth.

Samaras is going to go down as a wasted talent.

  9. Tziolis has agreed to return to Racing Santander in La Liga. They face a real battle to stay in the division this year and they haven't got much money but former Aris manager Raul Hector Cuper is the manager and believes Tziolis can help. He's having a medical tomorrow

As a fan of the NT I was concerned that he wasn't going to find a team with the stop/start negotiations at Olympiako.

At least he is in a La Liga squad and yes these guys are going to struggle, but they did well against Valencia in the 1st round despite losing 4-3.

I hope Cuper plays him regularly.

  10. As for Makoun, what can be said about him? He was excellent at Lille and Lyon, but now he's just become abysmal for Aston Villa. When African players see such a rapid decline in their ability i always get suspicious because they are known to lie about their age. As young teenagers with footballing talent many are suspected of forging documents so they can earn moves to Europe. If you're 18 and playing as a 15 year old you might stand out with your physical ability and it gives you an advantage on trial. For those interested here's an article discussing it:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/fe...age-old-problem

Various clubs now use bone scanes to judge the development of the bone according the age the players claim they are. When players like Makoun decline suddenly and dramatically i get suspicious. The worst example is Obafemi Martins. I mean at 16 he's at Inter and tearing it up, now he's supposedly 26, has lost all his pace, Rubin didn't even want to put him on the bench, he went to Birmingham on loand, didn't earn a permanent move and now his career is in limbo. Er... suspicious! Maybe Olympiakos can include that scan as part of the medical he will have to undergo? If not i wouldn't take the risk. If it is just a bad season he had though he'd be an excellent signing. He does get forward a little more then a holding midfielder should though so he'd have to play with Tziolis rather than with Ibagaza so i'm not sure it's what you'd want.

Ela re you make some very good points around the African player's ages.

I think it should have been very suspicious when Makoun turned up at Rendi to sign his contract with Oly with his 26 year old son!

  11. on a side note neuer is class but casillas is the best keeper i've ever seen.

Football, like much of life is about opinions.

I personally think Casillas is one of the most overrated keeper I have ever seen.

Messi putting the ball through his legs for the 1st goal 2 nights ago proves my point.

Casillas has been fortunate he has played for very successful teams (Real/Spain). I'd like to see him play for Kerkyra or Iraklis and we'd all see how average he really is.

Neuer is all class. Unofficially the best in the world at present.

  12. No our esteemed major share holder and lover of brizoles Vagelis Marinakis says we're good for now in terms of metagrafes.

Interesting to note that Aris has snared Nery Castillo. I wonder how that will go down when they play against them.

  13. Final Score 2 - 3.

Fantastic result from one of my 2nd favourite clubs.

(Yes I am allowed to support them and PAOK and Asteras Tripoli as well if I want. It's not like cats and dogs making out!)

Now they need to do better than Atletico in the last match.

Aris is at home against Rosenborg while Atletico travel to Germany. Let's hope for a win to also maintain the 40 year plus unbeaten Euro run.
