    Derbyshire's a good player and it's always pleasing to see a Premiership player move to Greece. I like him as a player and his attitude seems superb, he referred to Olympiakos as "one of Europe's biggest clubs" and he says he "can't wait" to get started. That's always a good sign because it shows he's determined. However I have 1 or 2 concerns...

    1) He's replacing Kovacevic and yet he isn't a targetman. So that means we haven't actually replaced Kovacevic will means the team will be required to change tactics mid-season. Not good!

    2) Mitroglou is of course a target man but Valverde is reluctant to use him for some reason... Derbyshire's arrival will probably further limit Mitroglou's playing time and stunt his development.

    3) Unlike Darko, Derbyshire isn't a proven goalscorer. We supposedly bought a striker to replace Darko in case Diogo gets injured. If, God forbid, he does can we really be relying on Derbyshire to bang in the goals in big games? (i.e. St Ettiene, Milan, etc)?

    The point is, Derbyshire is a good YOUNG striker, just like Mitroglou. He is not a season-winning striker and that worries me... Good luck to the kid. Hopefully he helps guide us toward UEFA Cup glory, however I disagree with Morphi's statement:

    Santa Cruz hasn't had a good season because he wants to leave Blackburn, McCarthy is past it, and the other striker ahead of Derbyshire in the pecking order is Jason Roberts, an average player at best. So no derbyshire isn't a great player, he's a good young striker with promise, that's it, and I was hoping for a lot more to be honest.

    Kokkalis is not going to spend any money for transfers this January so the best and cheaper solution looks to be Derbyshire.Asteras Tripolis wanted 1 mil euros for Filomenos and the Farias thing never actuall happened or lead to anything.At least now Valverde will have 3 options and dont forget that Mitroglou was injured and also suspended/punished by the club for not appropiate behavior.Now i believe all of them will have their chance to prove themselfs with games every 3 days that our upcoming schedule has.

    Farias of Paort seems to be the name that will propably replace Kovacevic but we are going to know more about by the beggining of next week.Today they was a meeting with Kokkalis+Xrusikopoulos+Theodoridis but no details about any names have surfaced yet.

    There is weird reports by the newspapers today 1)"FOS" that Torosidis signed a contract extension untill 2013 with Olympiakos and that now there is a 7 million buyout in place while at the same time "Sportday" reports that Bayern Munich people asked Olympiakos for tickets for the upcoming Olympiakos-Saint Etien game to watch closer Torosidi.Instead of us running to get players we might lose 3-4 ?????(Darko-Sisic-Bravo are done for different reasons already)

    Ah,i forgot,there is also a report that an english team has made an offer for Patsatzoglou but Olympiakos is propably going to say no,thanks. :huh:

    With the surgery of Stoltidis and his absence from our team for the next 3 months,Olympiakos management should try and get someone to cover his void and also clean the roster a little bit.Apparently Valverde has not presurred or asked for any specific transfers to be made this winter,(that is one of the reasons Kokkalis loves him...)but he has said that the team could use 2 more quality players in the striker and defencive midfield positions.Since after our CL fiasco Olympiakos is missing the 12 million euros income,the management is thinking of trying to sell and get rid of the salaries of players like Bravo or Sisic.Plus i heard somewhere that Olympiakos scouters have the players in mind for the midfield position but no names have been made public yet.Can the striker be Castillo???? :rolleyes: (whisfull personal thinking)

    According to greek press Olympiakos is targeting Dimitri Papadopoulos(former Pao Player,Fanis Gekas and Koutsianikoulis(Ergotelis-the kid that scored 2 on Pao yesterday and gave the assist for the 3rd goal).From the foreign market we had the name Abelairas(11) of River Plate Argentina.

    Olympiakos management and Valverde have already made some plans about what positions need to be andressed during the winter transfer period.Olympiakos needs a new goalkeeper that will be ready to take over after Nikopolidis contract is up next summer and the idea is to get him soon so he can be trained and maybe learn a thing or two by our former NT and starter for our club, goalie.The other position is a striker and Neri Castillo is on top of that list with the problems that he got with his club,Sahtar and the fact that he does not want to play there,plus his wish to return to Greece.

    Its now official in greece castillo is not coming and to be honest id love for him come but to pay 2.5m euros ($4m) for a player to come on loan and then at the end of the season pay ANOTHER 8m euros to buy him is way to expensive

    Wait one second.Olympiakos needs another striker,that is what Valverde and the newspapers owned by Kokkalis were saying all summer long.2 strikers,1 left wingman and one center midfielder.We got Diogo as 1 striker,Leto for the left wing and Dudu for the center,correct??With Djole injury that propably would keep him out for a month,why Castillo coming back and covering BOTH positions was an idea not worth spending money??Also he was putting 500.000 of his own to make it happen.Kokkalis or his people never even tried to make something out of this story.I dont even believe that they actually called Shahtar,because of egos about what Castillo said about Petraki Kokkali.......I love my club a lot,and Castillo had good and bad moments but sometimes when something that might help you cover and maybe improve your team comes in your way,in my book you take it,for the good of the club and your fans.For me this is one more notch in the stupidity belt of our management during this summer transfer season.Even if Valverde never used him that would have been something to lift our spirits and team power a little bit more.......that is at least the way i see it.....

    And one thing about Avraam Papadopoulos.Give the guy some time and 1 partner to get used of each other.Papadopoulos was playing with Galitsios during summer,Zevlakow and Antzas during the last 2 games.He only needs more time.BUT we need another good CB,since Bravo is not able to cover even our bench warming team....

    Olympiakos according to some greek papers and websites,has made an offer to Djibbour of Panionios since the player did not come to an agreement with Pao or AEK in this transfer period.Also there are some rumours about a player from the England Premier League that Olympiakos is trying to lure but no name or other info has been made available yet.

    What a difference Lua Lua made.

    Simply the worst decision this summer, especially without a worthy replacement. :tdown:

    Are you in my mind or something lately???Exactly the same thing i was thinking.Not only we lost a realy good and fast player that could help our team but we got no damn replacement so far........and the 1st game for the CL was played already..... :tdown: :tdown:

    Just a little clarification on the Diogo saga.His team wants 10mil plus 30% of what Osfp might make when the player gets resold.I say forget about him,move to Bradao and Djibour and lets finish this summer transfers in this lifetime....eleos

    Just a quick question... If a ll goes well (and we knock out Anorthosi) and we advance to the next round, are we stuck with the same names that were given for the Champion League roster (yesterday) or is the team allowed to supply a new set of names?

    What I'm getting at of course is, if/when the team gets Diogo or Brandao and/or another midfielder and goalie can they be added (while obviously removing a few of the present names)?

    Yes,you can add names into your list if you advance to the CL groups.
