  1. I liked what I saw from Kone in the lead-up to the World Cup and in Brazil; he had that attacking spark and was dangerous in the opponent's third; something which was sorely lacking for the NT. He was also having a solid season in Serie A. However, he's inconsistent and this year we've seen a dip in his form without question. Discipline is also still an issue with this player (not the only one on the NT). I'd still have him in my 11 though, given that I've yet to see another good "8" emerge. As for Christodoulopoulos, I've always thought he lacked technique and his decision-making is questionable (along with many of our attackers); not to mention his penchant for constantly losing possession... I'm definitely not as high on this player but credit to him: he's willing to run at defenders and he does have a certain pace and athleticism which can be helpful when we're on the counter. I'd be willing to try him in the center but ideally we'll have a better player emerge here soon. I'm curious to see if Markarian will continue with KPaps as the DM. If he accepts the role and grows into it and if he improves his distribution, it could be massive for the NT. Here's an 11 I'd like to see tried in the next friendly (preferably before the Faroe Islands match): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Karnezis----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Torosidis----------------------------------------------Papastathopoulos----------------------Manolas------------------------------------------------------Stafylidis -----------------------------------------------------------------KPaps-----------------------Taxi----------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Fetfa-------------------------------------------Lazaros-------------------------------------------------------Kone---------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Take your pick------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Admittedly, got a little lazy with the striker position; honestly I think it's an open competition at this point: Mitroglou, Athanasiadis, Aravidis, Samaras?? Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind seeing what Samaras could do up top with a decent supporting cast; I know his form has been poor and he plays at a low level but for some reason I still think he may have something to offer this side yet.. besides shampoo tips...
  2. I was never really clear on what Topalidis' exact role was; it seemed like he started out as Otto's translator but then began to have some say in player selections later? Or am I way off on this? I have a hard time seeing how the old guard (Karagounis + Topalidis with Katsouranis still in the mix) are suddenly going to save us when we've seen what they had to offer for years now...
  3. Managed to catch this one so I'll throw in my 2 cents: I thought we showed a little more fight this time around; maybe it was the new manager, maybe it was having a few more fit players, heck maybe it was just desperation. Whatever the reason, things looked a little more lively and inspired out there than they have probably since Brazil. That said, we're still so horrifically poor in possession in the final third it is unbelievable. Poor decisions, poor movement, poor final ball... In short, we are easy to defend against, even for the likes of Hungary, N. Ireland, Romania, etc. Doom and gloom aside, there were at least a few positives out there: Fetfatzidis is a gem and we need him in the 11 every single time; RF or CAM doesn't matter just get him in there and let him do his thing. Papadopoulos as DM may be an experiment worth continuing if he accepts his role and continues to grow into it. I liked what I saw from Torosidis and Stafylidis, and no complaints about our CB pairing. Hope we can get a friendly in before our next game and see a little more of KPaps in the midfield, along with maybe Taxi/Samaris in a 4-2-3-1 perhaps?
  4. Nice to see everyone again, things were starting to get silly over on gs. I honestly didn't mind the Markarian hiring; after the Ranieri-era I thought he'd provide the steady hand needed to possibly salvage something out of this campaign. That said, his inclusion of Kats as a sub has me a little worried; really hoping we don't go back to donkey ball with Kats-Tziolis-Maniatis ala Santos...
