Rinus Israël died today at the age of 83. Our former trainer in the 1988/1989 season was capped 47 times for the Dutch National team and was captain of the first Dutch club (Feyenoord!) to win the European Cup (predecessor of the Champions League) scoring a goal in the final and after that winner of the World Cup for teams (old style). He was a ruthless centre back with the nickname Iron Rinus and alongside Theo "The Tank" Lazeroms they litterally demolished many many CF's. He stated he would not be on the pitch after 90 minutes these days with that thing called VAR.
