Why not Bouchalakis instead of Kourbelis? Kourbelis hasnt looked too good last two gms.

Bouchalakis never looked good, and we always lose when he plays.

Sok doesn't own a CB position, even though he plays epl Arsenal. As for that, they recently lost 4-1 to Chelsea for the record.

Fortounis again too slow to threaten, time and time again...upmarket Bakasetas.

Sokratis should definitely start. Manolas and Siovas were not even better against Italy.

In fact, Manolas and Siovas were terrible.

I had to cover the Cyprus game for Agonasport and unfortunately it was at exactly the same time. I guess Barkas was in net because Vlachodimos was bad last time, and Paschalakis was in goal for the friendly loss in Turkey. How do you get blown away by Italy, though? Losing to Italy, no shame in that, but they don't even blow like Luxembourg away. No pride in the ethniki anymore? How was OAKA? Was it another 5,000 people in a 70,000 seat stadium type deal?

They beat Liechtenstein 6:0 and Finnland 2:0.

Italy is still a world class team, and they knew exactly how to take advantage of our weaknesses (right side, non-existing midfield).

What the subs should have been.

Koulouris and pelkas on, Samaris and kourbelis off. Zeca to dm, sok to rb, kou to st and pelkas to interchange with fortou as a cm/am. That would have pushed the Italians back and made them respect the counter. And for the people in the back who think we don't have the talent... We do have the talent, these coaches choose not to use it. Now I understand that's hard to understand, because why on earth would a coach do that? ? And my answer is we're still trying to figure that out, it's become one of the wonders of the world. 3 straight games now this coach has gone done 2-0 early and he continues to just pick butterflies instead

    didn't matter anymore

I like zeca as a hard working blue collar player. However, I just can’t seem to look past the fact that he’s not Greek and is taking playing time away from real Greeks who wanna represent their country of birth.

I have nothing against him, and he shows a lot of passion playing for the Ethniki.

He also had every right to obtain Greek citizenship. But I don't hope this will become the norm, and we naturalize people just so they can play for us. This is not club football, it's the national football team.

Best thing to do now is to have Masouras and Kolovos on the wings. Donis would’ve  provided that spark to burst through with speed. I don’t know who else we have to do that. Probably Pelkas.

Lamprou would be a great replacement for Donis. But Angelos seems to ignore him.

Honestly, he should just put zeca at rb, that way we know at the very least the right side will be sealed up for us.

The exact opposite would happen. Zeca is way too slow for an RB. Guys like Kean, Shaaraway, Insigne, etc would expose him, and have a big party on his side.

  6. We should definitely consider Sokratis at RB. This guy plays at a high level for years now.

Can't trust the likes of Mavrias & Kotsiras to do the job. I mean we are talking about players from the 6th placed team of Cyprus and the 11the placed team of Greece.

This is Italy we are playing.

Anyway, a draw would be HUGE for us. If we lose we just have to hope Bosnia loses as well against them.

    Merry Christmas everyone...

Erikson plays on the wing when he is a CAM. Many others can play on the wing around the world. I don’t know why some of our players can’t be useful there. Pelkas has played on the wing at times for PAOK and looked ok. Mantalos same. It’s just when it comes to the national team it’s like they don’t know what to do.

Bakasetas same thing. We should just play our best players in positions we know they can thrive in. To me your not good enough if you can’t play another position. Maybe that’s a bit harsh but in reality I think our players are not good enough in general than the rest of the world in my opinion. I thought Pelkas could play both wing and CAM it’s clear that he can only play CAM. Fetfatzidis can play both as I said before.

Some can play in the center and on the wings, and some don't. Mantalos can't. Not in AEK, and not for the Ethniki.

Pelkas however is not the issue in our national team at all. Him on the left or right side is not ideal, but it is not the main issue Greece has.

It's the lack of good DMs or CMs in general. And Pelkas could be a good option right next to someone like Zeca (or someone better, if we had one).

Fetfatzidis has never done anything for us. EVER! He should try and play more consistent from now on. He is one of the guys who can have a great match (like against Milan) and then disappear for the next 10 games. There is a reason he only got to be a starter in Saudi Arabia, and nowhere else.

I have to agree that we do get more out of the Olympiakos players. What has Mantalos, Pelkas and Bakasetas done for us?

I don't think Bakasetas is any good, but Mantalos and especially Pelkas are good enough for us. They just aren't wingers! You can't expect them to shine on this position.

Pelkas should be used as an 8 right behind Fortounis. Defensively he is much better than those useless players like Tziolis anyway.

Its not only the AEK/PAOK players. Footballers who ply their trade in holiday leagues like Saudi league (Tziolis) or play for unglamorous Turkish teams like Tzavellas were not much help too (I mean the Skibbe era now). Kourbelis Mantalos Bakasetas Oikonomou (!) Koulouris Barkas and other disasters.

As for the Anastasiadis period, the first team versus Finland was quite good. The reserves were much worse against Estonia, especially Bakakis (an AEK player).

Those who play for Panionios or Atromitos are not better than AEK players. I just mean ALL of these guys who play for lesser clubs in the "Super" League. Without some international experience, they cant offer much for the NT I guess.

    Merry Christmas :)

Here is the big problem: We lack players who are successful at international level.

There's Sokratis and Manolas. And that's about it.

Our CM is the biggest problem, and there is no big difference between players like Bouchalakis, Tziolis, Zeca, Kourbelis, etc. We simply lack someone good there.

There is only a handful of good players in the Super League, like Fortounis, Pelkas, Fetfatzidis, and perhaps Koulouris and Koutris. Not including our U21 player. They need to develop first.

After the disastrous results of some Greek teams in their respective Champions League and Europa League groups  (AEK PAOK) and some other Greek teams in the qualification stages of Europa League (Atromitos Asteras) I think we should see that the players of these sides are really bad at international level. If we want a successful Ethniki we should rely on those footballers who have been successful at international level.

This is complete nonsense. Most players in the Ethniki are not AEK or PAOK players and we still get very bad results.

I don’t blame any of the players. This is how they support their families. I’d rather make half a million to ride the bench than 75 grand to play. Anyone would. It’s a job.

And what's stopping them from training even harder to eventually not ride the bench, but actually play? Being lazy won't get you far, especially as a professional football player.

It wouldn't matter in Greece's case because we wouldn't get that spot anyways since we finished 3rd but I see what you are saying its a good point if in the future if those circumstances present themselves a team would definitely throw the game..

Oh man. i totally forgot that we LOST to Estonia.

Another observation, since Finland and Bosnia won there respective Nations League groups maybe they will slip up a bit by knowing that they have a second chance to qualify should they not place in the top 2 here and it may open the door for Greece.

Nations League system is really flawed. We are in a group with Finland. Let's say they need a win against us in the last game and we have no chance to qualify anymore. We can just let them win and take their spot at the Nations League Play-Offs.

I doubt it will come to this, but this is a very flawed system.
