He played for Holland in 1988 Euro championship team. He coached FC Twente. Apparently he likes to play a very high pressing and attack style. Can we succeed with that style is the question?

    No.

We need someone who is able to stabilize or terrible defense (even though we have the talent for it)

Are we comparing Van Schip to Bielsa and Guardiola, or to Anastasiadis, Basinas,Ouzounidis and Dellas? There must be perspective here.

    Doesn't matter. He is on a Skibbe-Level.

Whoever it is it will be another mediocre coach who will not have the balls to put his foot down to take control of the team. He will have to listen to the saboteurs that want their old buddies back on the teams. Expect Torosidis, Tzavellas and even Tziolis to be given their spots back.

    Absolutely.

I don't see how anyone could ever celebrate another firing of a coach. We've been hiring and firing bad coaches for the last 5 years.

Nothing really changes here. Just another puppet coming in.

Yes they did but the Faroes was with tinker man Ranieri who screwed up things so badly with the NT after Santos left. Greece totally outplayed Estonia with 25 shots and they beat us with an own goal. Armenia took advantage of our sloppy start but next time they won't be so lucky...

We lost twice against the Faroes. 2 different coaches at that time. We lost with Ranieri and Markarian.

Outplaying Estonia doesn't mean anything. At the end we lost !

We also lost to Armenia because we seem to ALWAYS start sloppy under Angelos. It's not just this game.

    ....

We are slightly underneath Finland in terms of quality. We can beat them, but it won't be easy at all. 2 wins against them is almost a miracle with our current team.

J1078 I share your frustration but Greece can go and beat Finland. Finland are decent but who do they have that we should fear Pukki, Sparv. Lod? Aside from there Gk who plays at Leverkusen none of them play at a big European club. They even have a couple mls players from Montreal and Minnesota lol..

If Greece get united and stop the bickering and start games without conceding silly goals then this team can beat Finland, Bosnia and Armenia for sure.

Who does Armenia have? Or Estonia? Or even the Faroes?

It's not about roster quality (not that we have much either).

Yeah but I don’t think he will succeed.

    Why shouldn't Postecoglou succeed?

I think he could turn the Ethniki around. He doesn't have that Greek mentality, yet he is Greek, already managed in Greece before, had a decent run with Australia.

We need somebody who won't take no s%$#! from the players, teach them discipline.

Could he be our new Rehhagel? I don't know. But he'd be a better coach than everyone we've had since Ranieri.

There is clear explanation. They sabotaged the national team on purpose to get their way.

You could be right here. And if Angelos stays, he should NOT nominate those anymore.

In the interview Sokratis gave, it sounded like he had already spoken with Katsoranis how he felt.  This was a long time coming.  It must be tough for guys like Sok, Manolas - coming from clubs you have world class coaches/facilities to a place where it is nowhere near as structured.

    True.

But it doesn't explain why they played like s%$#! in their games.

You guys should read this.. So true... This guy rips the coach...Every outlet and reporter is blaming the coach for yesterdays loss and with good reason. Have read and see how many players were playing in a positions they are not use too and this is a trend with this coach as he said when he first got hired he doesn't care about positions.

I do blame the coach, too.

But we should also blame our best players, who are supposed to lead this team and show at least some passion (Manolas, Sokratis, Samaris, Siovas).

But Kougias is an a**hole. Always has been, always will be.

Hey Laput..sound like me 15 years ago. anyway, I would of liked to have seen a fit and available Retsos and Mavropanos, start to get phased into this squad. I'm the only guy that thinks Manolas and Sok, these days, are no better than Oikonomou.

Siovas needs to keep away from the RB position.  Toro has not played so, Sok might do something there or, Lykogiannis might be good for the RB position, don't know. I also believe that Lamprou, Limnios and Galanopoulos should come into this squad too and play further up, as well.

Since world cup 2010, Karagounas, Kats and Samaras went, and there have been no dominant players to lead the team since then. Still not a settled lineup, one of the longest rebuilding phases in our history. The Acropolis would not be ready today, if it took that long for the construction company to build it back then.

Actually pace should be the primary criteria for the mids and front third. Technical ability comes along for the ride. Therefore, a player can thwart or stop opposition players of more ability, with pace.

On another note,I would prefer Taxi to Samaris cause he cannot stamp authority on the pitch. This is not going to improve at 30 years of age. Carlos Santana Zeca shytes all over him, superior class.

There is a reason Manolas and Sokratis are playing in way better teams than Oikonomou. They are far better players, who had some terrible games lately. And only they are to blame for that. But only punishing Sokratis would not be wise. Manolas and Siovas were not better at all. All of our other decent options are injured right now.

Oikonomou, Kourbelis, etc should not be near the Ethniki.

If we lose with our best players, we'll lose with our worst. We shouldn't leave out our best players, even if we get smashed.

The worst problem is our midfield, and it doesn't look too promising for the future either. There really isn't anyone playing at a higher level right now.

You are right we lack leadership, and our midfield lacks any kind of pace. And it won't get better.

It's a shame Kyriakos Papadopoulos is so injury prone. He'd be our leader by now. But that's not possible now.

  9. There is no doubt Pelkas and Limnios should be regulars for the Ethniki. Maybe play Pelkas as 8, better defensively than Samaris, Kourbelis and whatnot.

Limnios should be the obvious starter on the right side (also good defensively), would have helped a lot to give our ride side more stability.
