  1. Samaras was consistently putting in good performances when at Heerenveen & was on fire early on at Man City. Technically gifted with a nice touch, good dribbling ability, speed, very good aerial game & good finisher. I thought while at Celtic he got too comfortable. He all of sudden looked bored & started playing too casual. That spark & intensity a young Samaras had was gone.

  2. So I assume Tachtsidis has recovered from the injury he had a few weeks ago? Will Genoa finally decide to use him? He has been owned by Genoa since 2010 he has been loaned out on seven occasions to Cesena, Grosseto, Verona, Roma, Catania, Torino & Verona for a 2nd time. He has yet to make his Serie A debut for Genoa.

  3. Pas Acheron progressed to the 2nd round of the 1994/1995 Greek Cup finishing in 2nd place behind Paok in Group 10. Pas Acheron lost 5-2 to the Greek Champions of that season. Pas Acheron lost both home & away matches 4-1 in the 2nd round of the Greek Cup to Kavala.

Sorry, Paok were not the Champions that season but 10 years earlier. Still Paok is one the top 4 teams in Greece.
  4. There was talk of Samaras going to A-League club Melbourne City at one stage in the Australian football media. Melbourne City are owned by the owners of Manchester City & New York City. Samaras is a dual citizen, whom holds a Greek & Australian passport. His grandfather helped start South Melbourne football club & his father was born in Melbourne, Australia.

In saying all that I really doubt he will come to Australia unless there is nothing better. I know he doesn't want to play in the Greek Super League at the moment. I see him at mid table French team, back in the Netherlands, Scotland or Russia.

  7. Stathis Tavlaridis I think last played for the national team 10 years ago at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany. He spent most of his professional career playing in France & even played for Arsenal early in his career. I think most of his appearances were in League Cup & FA Cup matches but remember watching him make his EPL debut. For some reason he never got picked when he was at his peak & remember he used to get a lot of support for selection in forums at the time.

  9. During this Euro 2016 Qualifying campaign, Greece have lacked that fight & passion which has got them results against more technically gifted teams in the past. Past captains Theo Zagorakis, Angelos Basinas & Giorgos Karagounis made sure his men left their heart & sole on the football pitch.

  10. Boys, I read some jouno's quote a while back that when P Kone first came into the national team environment, he was infact touted as 'the new Karagounis!' That tells me that he was touted as a DM. Would that read correct to others? If so, play him there next match, I'm not crazy about him at AM..

Although Karagounis played as defensive central midfielder at Pao & Fulham for the national team he was used mostly as a #10 attacking midfielder/playmaker or either left or right midfield. Basinas, Katsouranis, Zagorakis, K.Papadopoulos, Makos, Pliatsikas, Tsiolis, Maniatis, Samaris or Tachtsidis have been preferred probably because Greece do not lack defensive midfielders but have lacked a true #10 playmaker ever since Tsiartas. Karagounis is the only player the coaches have trusted in that roll after Ninis & Fetfatzidis failed to take their chances when given the opportunity. They played one great match & then not get involved in the next 3 matches or get injured. Personally I thought Karagounis was best as a defensive midfielder as he did in his last two matches against Ivory Coast & Costa Rica.
