FIFA World Ranking

@PaokCT here is the relevant link: https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/f99da4f73212220/original/edbm045h0udbwkqew35a-pdf.pdf

And an excerpt from the first page is below. Seems participation in those tournaments provides greater weight, but qualification does not provide a bonus.

Quote

Termed by FIFA as “SUM”, the new algorithm developed specifically for the new FWR was fine-tuned to reflect a number of FIFA’s considerations, including the following:

- Adjusting the game weightings to give:

o less importance to friendly matches and more importance to final round competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup               Finals

o more importance to knock-out stage matches than group stage matches in final competitions

- Excluding losses in knock-out rounds of final competitions from the calculation

The second page goes into the formulas - I never thought they'd go so far as to use exponents in these calculations. Guess it makes sense; it actually would make the impact of beating a better team even better than UEFA's version (which just gives a set number of coefficient points for a simple win/draw result). Was this like this before? (Probably)

Anyone know the date for the UEFA World Cup Qualifying draw?  We will need some luck as Nations League group looks tough and our ranking has taken a bit of a hit since missing Euro..

Basically will need a miracle to qualify for WC but that's our specialty!

It doesn’t say exact date anywhere I looked but usually it’s in first week of December (7th or 8th) and after Nations league has concluded. It will be really tough to qualify for sure even with the extra spots. Greece needs to win these NL matches we are now 54th in the rankings. I hope we can get off to a good start by beating Finland & Ireland and hopefully we get a result vs England. I think we are good for 2nd place in this group and if England qualify directly for wcup then I believe Greece would take their NL playoff spot. I am hoping we get a nice draw unlike the last Euro draw which was the toughest group possible.

As of this moment, we are currently in Pot 2 for WCQ. Go follow “football meets data” on Twitter and they’re always updating it. Looks like we need 3 more wins in NL to clinch pot 2

Really? I thought we were aiming to keep ourselves in Pot 3.

Norway's win last night added 9 points to their ranking. Here is the breakdown as of this minute

22. Norway (1472)

23. Czechia (1464)

24. Slovenia (1462.97)

-----------------------------

25. Greece (1462.55)

26. Scotland (1462)

Top 24 are first two seeds. We dropped due to Norway's win. If we win today, we gain 6 points. If we lose, we lose 9. Draw and we lose 1. So basically we NEED to win today to move up to 23rd.

According to the live FIFA rankings, we are 42. I believe they officially come out next week. With 2 more results next international window, we could easily jump into the 30s for the WCQ.
