dark_horse Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Guys, Greece just moved up by 10 rankings, what gives? Has FIFA suddenly become generous to us? :P FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking 1. Brazil 1574 pts 2. France 1534 pts 3. Argentina 1492 pts 4. England 1477 pts 5. Italy 1474 pts 6. Netherlands 1327 pts 7. Czech Republic 1312 pts 8. Germany 1291 pts 9. Portugal 1272 pts 10. Spain 1255 pts 11. Nigeria 1166 pts 12. Cameroon 1062 pts 13. Ukraine 1029 pts 14. Switzerland 1016 pts 15. Uruguay 960 pts 16. Denmark 940 pts 17. Mexico 891 pts 18. Sweden 888 pts 19. Olympiakara10 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Questionable list... Uruguay? Denmark? Columbia? Nigeria?
savas Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 fifa ranks are crap and always have been. who really cares. england is ranked higher than italy, yet italy are the world champs and thats all that matters really. greece beat moldova and move up? hehe mmmmmmmm
Irlandos Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Something is very different here: Mexico has dropped substantially and the US are off the list! Have FIFA finally realised the error of their ways???
evalagoal Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Lets be totaly honest here... Who looks at these rankings and why do they matter. We all know that our team DOES NOT belong that high up on that list considering our recent results. And it's not just our team, there are so many on this list here that we can pick on and adjust accordingly.. Don't even give this list a second though, but to answer your question YES! I do think that FIFA has lost her head... ;)
dark_horse Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 Evalagoal (just love that name :D ), I could understand the world rankings is full of garbage, sometimes we tend to follow it just to see when our national team are heading to, kind of like in the everyday world we may follow the personal lives of celebraties ever if we don't care so much about it.
Morphi Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I don't really understand tha ranking thing whatsoever. FIFA consider England fourth because we haven't (officially) lost a single game in a major tournament since 2002. Since then, we were always kicked out on penalty shoot-outs. Weird. Last time England lost an official game, it was against Northern Ireland. FIFA doesn't even count the 2-1 loss versus Belarus as it was a friendly and a B squad game. :1eye:
plato-ny Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Greece jumps to 14th in FIFA ranking: http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/ind...ct-2006,00.html Greece jumps to 17th in ELO Ranking: http://www.eloratings.net/

levendi2000 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 i could never understand ratings... ghana is a better side then most the teams in the top 20. where are they in the rankings?
levendi2000 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 example: czech republic (8) 0 - 2 Ghana(24)
PAO_OR_DEATH Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 probably racist reasons , these rankings are complete bullshit
dark_horse Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 (edited) probably racist reasons , these rankings are complete bullshit :tup:Now you wouldn't say that if Greece was to put in the top 10? ;) Edited October 19, 2006 by dark_horse
Olympiakosthyra7 Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Cyprus is ranked 80th and it says they moved up 23 spots That win from Ireland moved them up. Greece is 14? How 3 straght wins should not move up a team that much but none the less its good good
PAO_OR_DEATH Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Now you wouldn't say that if Greece was to put in the top 10? ;) yea i would these rankings mean nothing, any team low ranked team can beat a high ranked one on their day. FOR FUKS SAKE AUSTRAILIA beat us that doesnt mean they're better than us  .

loup Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 (edited) Well done - I wonder if any changes were made - the US and Mexico were top 6 or 7 for a while - now, rightfully, they are nowhere to be seen - but now the African's are overrated Edited January 20, 2007 by loup

Nigeria and Cameroon we're once "powerhouse" nations, now there no where to be as good as they we're before. I wonder why Egypt get the nod at no. 19? Are they for real? What's really surprising is why not put Serbia or Ghana in there in the top 20? :D Edited January 21, 2007 by dark_horse
dark_horse Posted January 21, 2007 Author Posted January 21, 2007 I rather have Croatia up there than England.
dark_horse Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 This is funny, after Italy was at the top spot for world suprimecy, Argentina now takes over. Greece still remains at #13, Sweden moved up to #15, Scotland to #16, both African nations Ivory Coast and Ghana made the top 20. Rankings are only good for showing a relative ranking IMO.For example I'm from Canada and they dropped to number 102 or thereabouts but they haven't played hardly any games as a National team lately. There is a top 7 or 8 team grouping that includes the likes of Brazil and Argentina and then there is a group that goes from 9 to about 25 which includes Greece. After that you can probably use 25 group intervals. Very subjective but it still provides a point for discussion boards like this.
