Hes been asked 2 go play for both mexico and yugoslovia and hes declined both. Having spent a large part of his life in Greece and being fluent in the language, etc I wouldnt mind Castillo playing for us. The question of the slippery slope arises though, would the squad fill with foreigners in years to come??? This is our national team and I want the players to be Greek, for better or worse! Wait a minute.. Lets have an open mind... Do you remember Batista (that was Portugese) bu ended up playing for Greece?? This is a decision that the player needs to make because once he commits, that's it. I really believe that he would be a great add-on to the team. The way that we're looking right now I think that we need to do this because if not we're going to get emberrassed during the qualifying stages.. I don't want Greece to end up like Germany, Netherlands, Portugal or even worse France. You play for the national team because its in your blood and soul, its a matter of national pride. As for Castillo, as long as he goes through the same process as a normal person to gain Greek citizenship (including military service, etc.) I have no problem with him playing for the NT. Thats right it has happened beforeI remeber when Tsakolidis was put on the Ethniki basketball team - Sigalis and others got very upset the we were going down that slippery slope that others have mentioned. With basketball you see it more often - Papadopoulos is from Georgia - but I think (not sure ) that these players (plus the soccer team's Papadopoulos and the basket's Schortzanitis) are descendants of Greeks living abroad (although not sure about Tsakolidis). The national under-21 b-ball team is full of Serbs that play for our league teams and have become at least temporarily Greek - I don't like it BUT if Castillo considers himself Greek and plans to remain Greek then ...? Last saisons if he would not had worn the red-white dress.., he would have seen many redcards...... (Though he did not see even one in his career --- Coincidence ? ) I don't want such players in the NT And also he should show his capabilities first against Valencia - Roma and so on ... and then people can talk about...
