SPL Season 2006-07

Recommended Posts

After 3 round of matches and a few surprising results, first place in the SPL is shared by Hearts and Falkirk, who dropped their first points of the season in a 0-0 draw at Tynecastle on Saturday. Celtic and St. Mirren met on Saturday, and lie a point behind the leaders following Celtic's 2-0 victory at Parkhead. Rangers sit in 6th place after drawing their last 2 matches against Dundee United and Dunfermline after winning their opening game away to Motherwell.

New Rangers manager Paul Le Guen is already coming under fire. With their next matches against Hearts, fans are fearing the worst not even a month into the new season. Rangers have been guilty of passing up countless scoring opportunities in their opening 3 matches, finding the net only 5 times. Belgian Thomas Buffel has been the biggest culprit, which should see last season's top scorer Kris Boyd come off the bench for his first start of the season.

This week it's the turn of Hearts manager Ivanauskas to feel the pressure, as his side went down 2-0 at Ibrox to Rangers who jumped to the top of the table despite their relatively poor start. Celtic could only manage a 1-1 draw against Inverness, who equalised in the 80th minute. Motherwell stay in bottom position after losing their 4th game in a row away to Hibs and remain pointless.

So far it's been refreshing to see both the Old Firm drop points at the start of the season, and hopefully the lesser clubs can continue to keep the presure on for as long as possible. There's nothing worse than a league campaign almost settled by Christmas! Here's hoping anyway.
