After the disappointment of not going to the Euro 2004 Competition, Turkey set its sights on the 2006 World Cup in Germany... But first, the team has to qualify to get there...

It all started very disappointingly when we had a very dull game against one of the poorest teams in the group, Georgia... The game was in Trabzon, ironically one of our closest cities to Georgia and having created nothing offensively, we took the lead on 48 minutes after a salapati cross by Besiktas' Ibrahim Toraman was tipped in by striker Tekke Fatih... The controversial sending off of Hasan Sas on 59 minutes left us with a bunch of defending to do, which we did pretty well till late 84th minute. Ashetiani's header from close range earned Georgians a very unlikely draw: 1-1...

Then came probably the most difficult game in the group... September 8 @ Georgio Karaiskaki vs Greece... Everybody expected a tight game between the reigning Euro Champs and the World Cup semi-finalists but it was a torrid 0-0 in the end... Only two chances prevailed in minds in a very poor game of footballing standard... On 15 minutes, Stelios broke thru our defence but his pace-lacking shot was cleared off the line by Cetin Servet... and on 24 minutes, Nihat ran through three Greek defenders before hitting his shot straight at Nikopolidis... and would you believe, that was all... 0-0...

On October 9, we hosted Kazakhstan, the team who had a brave brave fight against Ukraine but lost out 1-2 on stoppage time... The game was quite an easy won for Turkey as a quick lead on 16 minutes came after Karadeniz Gokdeniz struck the ball past Novikov from 20 yards out... Nihat doubled the lead on 49 minutes as his shot broke Novikov's finger and his substitute came on to replace him... Man of the match Ates Necati was fouled in the eighteen-yard box on 53 minutes and Tekke missed the penalty on 54... But he converted two late chances on 88 and 90+2 minutes to confirm a 4-0 demolishing...

Our next game is on Wednesday against a relatively-low quality Danish side compared to that of last few years'... With our standard of football i have every right to be pessimistic about our future  ... Hope i am wrong...

I guess a 2-1 Denmark win with us missing a few clear-cut chances or even a penalty :( ...

HAYDI BE TURKIYE'M... :nw:

In the fourth qualifier in Group B, Turkey had all to worry in a very-one-sided game... Turkey dominated from start to finish but a rare start for left-back Uzulmez Ibrahim saw him shab Gronkjaer in the back to award the poor Danes a spot kick on 27 minutes...Jon Dahl Tomasson went for placement and Recber Rustu was close to tip it wide, though it was 1-0 Denmark on 28 minutes, quite underservedly...

However, Jesper Gronkjaer was sent off one minute after the goal as his elbow on Buruk Okan's neck was clearly penalised by ref Massimo De Sanctis... Then Turkey applied all the pressure and second half substitutions made an instant impact... Tuncay came on for Uzulmez, Necati replaced Cetin Servet and Balci Serkan replaced Karadeniz Gokdeniz... Especially Necati had a commanding game and his pass to the path of Ozat Umit created the goal after his cross was headed home by Nihat...

But before and after the goal Turkey had huge chances as Tuncay missed a good opportunity just before Tomas Helveg handballed the ball which was heading towards the net... yeah, it was a penalty but the story was no different than than Kazakh game... Upsteped Nihat and his kick rocked the bottom post only to make Danish keeper Skov-Jansen happy...

After missing 9 clear opportunities, we have to be very very unlucky to come out with a 1-1 draw... We deserved more :( , much much more... :(

we want to see aggressive and ambitious players like Emre and Neco.

we want to see a creative midfield not a bushing one... :nono:

Such a shame...

This defence mentality goes to hell..

Stoppers Servet and Tolga, both newbie and both doesnt know anything about top class football. We see both against EU teams. Total crap...

The anchorman, the biggest part of a team. Huseyin never deserves this position. There must play Emre and Yildiray (maybe a Turkish Aurelio???) together and in front of them must be Necati.

Left wingback has to be Ibrahim Uzulmez and for the right is Onder Turaci or Umit Ozat..

There must be fighting wingers with an eye on goal like Tuncay Sanli, Serhat Akin, Mehmet Yozgatli, Halil&Hamit Altintop. Ant the lone forward has to be Nihat.

Fatih Tekke is an easy-game star. He never does well in big matches. He is a fake hero.

For all these happen, Ersun Yanal must go away and a well-known manager should get the job immediately... Otherwise we just DREAM the world cup like the last Euro...

---ok, let alone team spirit... it's all players one by one---

RUSTU: since his departure from Fener in 2003 summer, he's always been an average goalkeeper. he's 31 and should be given his way... Volkan Demirel is waiting for a long time (1,5 seasons( to take up his gloves at both Fener and NT. Volkan, 23, definitely deserves a go...

TOLGA: something happened to this guy after having his hair cut... he's strong in tackles but he absolutely has to learn where to stand while the opposition is coming. his positioning is simply under the needed standards...

SERVET: one game he plays like a worldclass defender, then he makes crazy challenges to get sent off. this time he slipped twice and it cost us two goals... needs to add to his speed and has to give off some weight...

OZAT UMIT: he's been used as a left-back, right-back and a centre-back so far in the NT but his actual position is anchorman. he gives his all but his limited offensive abilities is a big hindrance for him...

DENIZ BARIS: he is simply not a player of the required level. in CL games with Fener he made some fatal mistakes but his last showing vs Ukraine in the NT simply convinced me that he has neither the ability nor the technique nor the positioning (and wutever u can add) to play at international level. Ersun Hoca's persistance in him is incredible... he's 27, not young and in his position one can count several players that are way better than him... Hakan Unsal, Ergun, Orhan Ak (G.Saray), Ibrahim Uzulmez, Cagdas (Besiktas), Bekiroglu Volkan (Trabzonspor), Dursun Adem (A.Gucu) and more I cannot remember... Bu herifi hamal diye pazara bile goturmem ya!!! :nono:

HUSEYIN: go back to where you've come from  ! in pre-game critics several press members elected him to play in place of Yildiray... there you go! we've been having this anchor problem ever since Tugay left the NT last year and we've not been able to find a correct guy ever since. my candidate for this position is Ozat Umit or Ahmet Yildirim, both of whom are ove 30 unfortunately... and perhaps Balci Serkan...

EMRE BELOZOGLU: the one and only player who stood up when required... he's pacey, he's got bags of technique and he can create and dribble! he also srongly tackles and wins balls with ease... he's worldclass now and he'll be a superstar come 25!

BURUK OKAN: he's not the Okan of 5 years ago when he reaked havoc but he's still useful and unless we find someone more capable than him he'll be there...

GOKDENIZ: this kid needs to have some European experience. he's probably living the problem of reaching his potential at a very early age. in the last two seasons he did not improve and he needs to do so! we and all the media thought he enhanced his skills but it was not his skills that improved but only his coordination with Tekke... he's still unbelievably 23 and he still has years to go with the NT, if he finds his way up...

NIHAT: he's not consistent and that rattles him come the international level. we're really looking for 'Nihat'!!! he's currently not alive when one remembers what he did two seasons ago! Eskiden o topu kaleciyle beraber iceri sokardin Nihat, simdi calim malim ne isler bu isler???

TEKKE: go away, you a**hole!!! :nono: he has to play his football in Trabzon Amateur Third Division along with Trabzon Kumpir Patatesspor! he's that much crap!!!

With more generation, I can say that players like Servet, Toraman, Cagdas, Gokdeniz, Sanli Tuncay, Balci Serkan need some experience to develop. experience will play a key role in their development. should I be the NT manager, I would never call Tekke, Huseyin, Deniz Baris and Hakan Sukur to the NT.

One also has to say that times are coming for Hamit & Halil Altintop co. to take part in the NT. we've missed the chance with Muzzy Izzet but we simply have to keep it with these guys. We have some good players, playing their football abroad but we make little use of them. Apart from Emre (Inter) and Nihat (Sociedad), we have Hamit Altintop (Schalke), Halil Altintop (K'Lautern), Atak Serkan (FC Bayern Reserves), Davala Umit (SV Werder), Muzzy Izzet (Birmingham City) and that young striking sensation in Heerenveen, his name was, I think, Ugur Yildirim...

We have to generate some quality defenders and stick to some elder guys like Okan, Uzulmez, Hakan Unsal...etc.

SAYGILAR :)

Hellas got a critical win too. With a short look at the fixtures, if Turkey beats Georgia this Wednesday, Will have the biggest chance for the second place if Ukraine dont stop their winning streak.
