Some claims online that a bottle of vodka was found nearby. Alcohol is huuuugely dangerous near pools (hell, people have died in bathtubs after getting inebriated). Sad ending to his story.

Extremely tragic and sad news. I have no idea how the NT and PAO players must be feeling, much less his family and friends. Football aside, he was far too young.

RIP George.

In a heartfelt move, Panathinaikos owner Giannis Alafouzos is considering chartering a private plane to allow the club’s devastated players and staff to attend the funeral of George Baldock.

The 31-year-old English-born Greek international tragically passed away earlier this month after drowning in the pool of his Athens apartment.

Sources close to the Super League club have revealed that Alafouzos is exploring the logistics of making the special arrangement ahead of the funeral, scheduled for October 30. The gesture is aimed at offering support to Baldock’s heartbroken teammates as they prepare to say goodbye to their beloved colleague.

I think it is good to honor all Greek internationals that gave us joy and pride. Therefore I changed the title of this topic with Baldock being now the first to be honored in this topic.

Today Mimis "The General" Domazos died at the age of 83 after suffering a cardiac arrest on his birthday two days earlier.

Domazos was Mr Panathinaikos but played the 1978/1979-season for AEK to prove he was not a "finished player" and even clinched the title.

He finished his career (after a transfer in the winter of the 1979/1980-season) at his beloved Greens though.

He holds the record of 536 appearances in the Alpha Ethniki and scored 139 goals (#15 on the all time list of Alpha Ethniki). Domazos was capped 50 times and scored 4 goals for the Ethniki.

I am too young to have seen him play live but heard lots of stories about how talented and how good a footballer he was. One of the all-time Greek football legends no doubt.

O Θεος να τον αναπαύσει.

I did manage to see him play on TV back in 1970's. The first time I did was at the Champions Cup final in 1971 when Panathinaikos played Ajax at Wembley.

He was definitively one of the best of that era along with Mimis Papaioannou and Georgios Koudas.

Takis "To Pouli" Oikonomopoulos died at the age of 81 today after suffering a stroke earlier. He was the keeper of the Greens in the famous 1971 final at Wembley.

He was capped 25 times for the Ethniki.
