Omonoia9
Nikos Kostenoglou has been fired as the manager of the Cypriot national team. The Greek manager only lasted about a year and a half behind the bench for Cyprus. In 18 matches under Kostenoglou since February 2021, Cyprus only won twice, although one of those wins kept Cyprus in League C of the UEFA Nations League. Kostenoglou was never a popular hire in Cyprus, and this seems to just confirm that. Sounds like his replacement is Timur Ketsbaia who despite being Georgian knows Cyprus well. He first came to Cyprus in 2002 as a player for Anorthosis. In 2004, without retiring as a player, he became the manager. He did retire as a player in 2007 and remained the manager until 2009. After leaving for an ill-fated stint in Piraeus at Olympiakos, he got some national team coaching experience for his native Georgia. He then returned to Cyprus for a season at APOEL, and then another stint at Anorthosis that just recently ended.
