UEFA just announced that starting in 2024, South American countries will be joining the UEFA nations league. Imagine we get drawn with BRAZIL …

This is retarded. May as well have the World Cup every 2 years then.

We can win 5 or even 6 matches here and be done with League C.

It’s mind boggling we have to wait until Jun for meaningful matches against Kosovo and Cyprus/Estonia at 4am Fri or Tue AEST.

We will need all our top players fit and in form, 4 games in a span of 10 days. The team will have to be focused and ready to go we cant have any slip ups.

It's going to be like a mini tournament with teams we are expected to beat. Should be fun. I'd be happy with 10 points in those 4 games. Going 4/4 will be super tough due to match congestion.

I think 10 pts would be great though we should be looking to get the full 12. Its going to come down to us vs Northern Ireland and that first match in Belfast will be huge. A win will set us up just fine going into the other matches.

It was a dumb move by UEFA to cramp the first 4 rounds in June, when most leagues would be finished by mid May at the latest. Most player's minds will be on vacations and won't care too much about giving it all for the national team.

Not sure. JVS had our boys loving playing for the Ethniki. You could see a big tick in effort and pride. I think we are going to realize what opportunity we have in front of us and if we do end up dropping points, it won't be from a lack of interest.

4 games in 10 days will be tough especially after all the club football the guys will have played but they are doing it because the World Cup will be played in November (which will be strange). Lets hope our key players are all fit and available for these matches.

It's not only Greece that is suffering. It's the players from all the teams that would rather be resting and looking ahead at the upcoming season. Let's not also forget that there will be about 1 month between the leagues ending play and the national team games.

The winners of League C have been decided, along with Greece the other group winners are: Turkey, Georgia and Kazakhstan. These 3 along with Greece will be promoted to League B for the next edition of the Nations League.

Furthermore, they are potential opponents in the event Greece doesn't directly qualify for Euro 2024, in the playoffs. Of course if any of those group winners qualify directly they would also be replaced with lower ranked nations in the playoffs, so we may end up avoiding them all together.

As things stand assuming none of the 4 qualify directly, we would have to beat 2 of Turkey, Georgia and Kazakhstan to qualify for Euro 2024. The format is a one-off playoff game, 2 semis and a final with the winner  gaining qualification.

I made this post originally in the Kosovo-Cyprus thread:

So here are the scenarios. Cyprus could finish anywhere from 2nd to 4th(and last) in this group. Best case scenario, Greece beats NI in Athens and Cyprus wins this game in Kosovo. Cyprus gets 2nd. Cyprus can also get 2nd with a win at Kosovo and a draw in Athens.

Cyprus can finish 3rd with a draw and a Greek win over NI, or a win at Kosovo with a Northern Irish win in Athens.

Unless Greece absolutely lays down a smackdown big enough to overcome the goal differential with NI, and Cypriot loss sees Cyprus finish last and facing another relegation playoff.
