Antaeus7
Any idea who in athletics have the virus? I can't find the names.
Blackhawk
I am not sure as the names are not released to public. Even the number of the affected athletes is not certain now. It is now reported that the affected athletes are 2 and the third person is from the technical staff. From what I can deduct 1 athlete is from the sailing team and the other one is from track & field. If I had to make an educated guess, the sailing athlete is either Kokkalanis or Mitakis because they take part in individual events, and the track athlete is Pesiridou, because she is scheduled to travel to Japan alone and and much later than all the other athletes. Blackhawk
Turns out the sailing athlete with COVID is Mitakis. His latest test was negative and he is now cleared to travel to Tokyo.

Antaeus7
Results from yesterday: Polychronis Tzortzakis finished 63rd in the men's road race at 6:16:53. Eleftherios Petrounias qualifies for the finals in the men's rings with 15.333 points. Panagiotis Gionis defeats Serbia's Peto 4-0 to advance into the second round of men's table tennis to face Saleh of Egypt. Maria Sakkari defeats Estonia's Kontaveit 7-5, 6-2 in women's singles tennis to advance into the second round to face Serbia's Stojanovic. Christina Bourbou & Maria Kyridou have finished 5th in the rowing women's pair heat to advance into repechage and must finish top three from that round to advance into the semifinals A/B. In Men's swimming, Apostolos Papastamos finished 14th in the 400m individual medley with 4:12.50 and failed to advanced to the finals. In women's swimming, Anna Ntountounaki finished 13th in the 100m butterfly with 57.75 to advance into the semifinals.
Antaeus7
Tropical storm Nepartak is expecting to strike well north of Tokyo that could impact all water sports events. It is not forecasting to be a Typhoon.
Blackhawk
Big win by the water polo team defeating Hungary 10:9 in their first game. Korakaki failed to medal in the 10 m pistol finishing 6th. Doudounaki finished 9th in 100 m butterfly and Christou 11th in 100 m backstroke. Tzeli finished 7th in 57 kg of Taekwondo despite losing both matches. Gountoura in fencing eliminated in first round. In rowing all three Greek representatives will race in the semifinal races. In Sailing in the women's Radial competition Karachaliou is in second place after the first 4 races. Today Sakkari plays Svitolina in Round 3 and Tsitsipas plays Tiafoe in Tiafoe is the player that eliminated Tsitsipas in Wimbledon. Egglezakis had to withdraw from the 800 meter freestyle swimming competition due to injury. Finally, it's sad to see the Olympics bein diluted by such weird sport as skateboarding, windsurfing, 3x3 basketball and so on. before we know it Tavli will become an Olympic sport.
Antaeus7
Greece's real first chance of a medal could be from Vasileia Karachaliou from women's sailing (Laser Radial) or Stefanos Douskos from men's rowing (Single Sculls).
Antaeus7
Tsitsipas got his revenge and eliminated Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4 to advance into the third round (best of 16). Gionis suffered a meltdown in the 5th set, up 10-4 (3-1 in sets) only needed a point to win the match and lost out on deuce 12-10 to force a 6th set where Jeoung of South Korea finished him off in the final two sets (6-11, 12-14) to advance into the round of 16. This one stings.
Brklyngrk
Sakkari lost today.
Antaeus7
Svitolina was the better player, Sakkari could not handle her power serves and returns. At least Sakkari did what Danilidou couldn't do and that is reaching the round of 16 at the Olympic Games. Greece and Italy fought out a 6-6 draw in men's water polo. Blackhawk
I watched the Gionis match. It was very exiting game, but Gionis shot himself in the foot by not "killing" the opponent in the 5th set with the numerous match points he had. Just like our tennis players, Gionis is lacking the killer instinct to finish a match. I also stayed until 2:30 in the morning to watch the Sakkari game . It was obvious Svitolina was a better and more experienced player. This was evident in the deciding 3rd set. For Sakkari to advance she would have to have an exceptional game. She will now continue in the mixed pairs competition with Tsitsipas. In Water Polo we tied a strong Italian team 6:6 in a game where we blew a 4 goal lead in the last period of the game. Danatsidis eliminated in the first round of the Judo 81 kg competition. In swimming Christou (100 m freestyle), Markos (800 m freestyle)both eliminated in the first round heat. In other news, yesterday one of our Synchronized Duet swimmer (Platanioti or Papazoglou) tested positive for COVID and did not travel to Japan. As a result Greece had to withdraw from the Duet competition. She will be replaced by a sub in the team competition.

Blackhawk
What a great race by the two rowers coming from 4th place in the last 500 meters of the race to win their semifinal heat with a world's best time. Good luck to them in the final.
Blackhawk
In Judo (70 kg), Teltsidou won her first two matches and will now face the Russian Taimazova in the quarterfinal match. We could be looking at a medal here at the end of the day.
Antaeus7
Teltsidou lost to Tamiazova 10-0 on Ippon She will be heading into the repechage round and must win to advance into the additional bronze medals games. Antaeus7
Tsitspas eliminated from Humbert of France 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 2-6 Teltsidou eliminated from Scoccimarro of Germany Both Papastamos (35th) and Vazaios (27th) did not qualify for the semifinals in the men's 200m individual medley swimming On the positive side, Tsitsipas and Sakkari advance into the quarterfinals beating Canadian duo Dabrowski/Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-4 in the mixed doubles. For sailing, if any Greeks are eligible for the medal rounds, it will take place this weekend. I will get the full detail by then. Antaeus7
Kristian Gkolomeev is our only Greek swimmer left who has a good shot at a medal, he has the 4th fastest time in the 50m freestyle coming into the Tokyo Olympics at 21.45.
