Euro 2020 Qualifying

In the interview Sokratis gave, it sounded like he had already spoken with Katsoranis how he felt.  This was a long time coming.  It must be tough for guys like Sok, Manolas - coming from clubs you have world class coaches/facilities to a place where it is nowhere near as structured.

True.

But it doesn't explain why they played like s%$#! in their games.

We can still come 2nd. We have to win the 4/6 matches and at best draw the games against Italy and Bosnia. It’s up to us...

Lmao. Have you seen them play?

Honestly I'm gonna hold my remarks about the future till we get to Sept and see 1) who's coaching and what his playing style/tactics are and 2) who the call ups are. I think it's possible, but not on the current path we're on. Good thing is theres a few months here to overhaul some stuff. But the question is, will they do it.

It was a very frustrating match with Greece down 2 goals again at HT from stupid mistakes but we dominated the Armenians and found a few goals but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. If they quit the bickering and focus on football they can definitely win the games vs Finland, Armenia, Bosnia and bottom feeders Liechtenstein as we clearly have the better squad over these teams. At Italy will be difficult but by that time the Italians may have wrapped up top spot and not play some starters, so getting a draw maybe possible.

Will see at least the team has a few months off & maybe we will have a new coach if not then hopefully Sokratis and Manolas can cool off and re focus on the task at hand.

There is no way we can sit here right now and say we can get 2nd bottom line we have a habit the last some years losing to minnows and not making tournaments. We need to be realistic and it's hard for all of us but the truth in the matter is that this team is falling apart there is no trust, no care, no systems, horrible management from the top down. In my mind we will not qualify I'm sick of being disappointed by this team. If come September the team somehow turns it around then great but to be honest we aren't making it in 2020.

2015 Greek football scandal[edit]

The 2015 Greek football scandal emerged on 6 April 2015 when prosecutor Aristidis Korreas' 173-page work was revealed. Telephone tapping operated by the National Intelligence Service of Greece since 2011 has played a significant role in the case.[19] According to the prosecutor's conclusion, Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis along with HFF members Theodoros Kouridis and Georgios Sarris, were suspected of directing a criminal organization since 2011. The goal behind their scheme was allegedly to "absolutely control Greek football's fate by the methods of blackmailing and fraud",[20][21][22][23][24][25] exploiting the self-governing ("autonomy") status of national football federations promoted by FIFA and UEFA.

In 2016, a temporary administration was placed by FIFA and UEFA due to the scandal.

On 28 December 2017 an envelop with a bullet was sent to the new president Evangelos Grammenos.[26]

After an attack to a Greek referee (Thanasis Tzilos) in December 2018, the Greek government announced its intension for the creation of a football anti-terrorist unit. According to the Greek Police, the National Intelligence Service and the case file, all the persons involved in the attack were employees of Evangelos Marinakis.[27]

Some interesting behind the scenes details about the ethinki have emerged today.‬ ‪Siovas was told just one hour before the game that he will have to play left-back. He explained to Anastasiadis that he has never played in that position before so the manager changed formations.‬ ‪During the game vs Armenia the Goalkeeper coach and the physio almost got into a fight (!). They had to be seperated by players.‬ ‪Basinas made the decision to bring on Siopis and Kolovos, with Anastasiadis later being upset that they subbed off Pelkas.‬ ‪A complete lack of organisation and as one ethinki player was quoted saying "These things only happen in Sunday League football"

Yea, time for a change!!!

This is making more and more sense now... You can just see the disconnect with the players and coach...  I've been reading articles that Angelo has been doing this his entire career, he would always play players in new positions where they were not comfortable playing and would always have falling out with players, I also read that he is stubborn as hell and no matter what anyone else says its always his way.. No wonder the players don't want to play for this clown. I've said this in previous posts that the biggest red flag for me was when he first got hired and in his opening press conference he said "He doesn't care about positions and if you're a good player you can play anywhere" This is a bad way to manage a team as you have players who have played there entire carriers in certain positions and then they are asked to play somewhere different and expect them to succeed. This journey man coach needs to go ASAP.

That's probably a big reason why they make mistakes, not the only reason, but they seem that they do not know what they are doing at times.  Unfamiliar with what they are supposed to do.  The commentators on ESPN where saying that it seems that Greece is still adjusting to the coach's style.

Bill Belichick is the head coach of the New England patriots. They have one 6 Super Bowls in 20 years. He believes that if you can play football you can play no matter where he puts you. He had guys all over the place. Yet all he does is win. Sometimes this system works sometimes it doesn’t. You have to get players to believe in themselves.

Yeah the players shouldn’t get any blame for losing to Estonia, Armenia, and Faroe twice. It’s all the EPO’s fault. Some of these guys need to look in the mirror. Ask yourselves, do you really need a good coach to beat these teams? If they can’t beat them with talent alone then they should quit the sport.

Ah vre Jimmy we have mobsters running the league and controlling EPO... but that has nothing to do with it we can still have professional federation.... It starts at top players don't have proper environment to play it will effect results, period.

I don’t disagree. But come on guys. Manolas and sokratis are making millions and they lost to guys putting up drywall for 15 bucks an hour. That’s no ones fault but the players.

@Jimmyp a toxic environment can bring failure to the best teams. having horrible coaches and a corrupt EPO will not bring success to the NT.

Neither will losing to teams that my 16 year old sons team can beat. Anyway will see in the next coming weeks. What will happen. If they do decide to change I’m all for Stelios Traianos or Ouzounidis. Just not the Australian guy or any other foreigner.

And you wonder why NT is struggling we have criminals running EPO...

Were running the EPO. They were kicked out 2 years ago after EPO elections and FIFA stepping in. However they try really hard get control again. The current NT fiasco will help their plan. They are getting closer to their goal. The current balance is 8-8-1, with the deciding vote going in favor of the past regime that joined forces with the group controlled by the Mitropoulos brothers of the "F*** everyone else as long as Olympiakos and Aigaleo win" fame.

There is clear explanation. They sabotaged the national team on purpose to get their way.
