Yeah these call ups were insane. I mean, Retsos can play everywhere in the defensive end if needed, yet he wasn't called up because already eliminated U-21 team arranged a couple of friendlies. Even Petsos is miraculously in the squad despite having only 5 or 6 caps with Fulham since Januray. :vomit: Siovas is also regular in Leganes, how the hell can somone ignore that and pick Oikonomou instead..

I don't think formations are anything to get caught up on.

A 4-3-3 offensively will transform into a 4-5-1 defensively.

A 4-2-3-1 offensively will transform into a 4-5-1 defensively, well should anyway.

The team selection is 95% predictable apart from 1 or 2 positions.

It's important that Gianniotas, Fourtounis & the 'other wide man' stay very close to Mitroglou when in attack.

If we play predictable boring, hit the '9' bullshit with no one around him then Mitroglou will become a liability.

welcome.

4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 or even 4-5-1 are the same thing depending on player movements and opponent possession/dominance. you will see wingers go behind fullbacks to grab the ball when the opponent team pressure is way too high.

the only problem greece has is no wing material. can't find any stable player who can run with open ball etc, so possession is something we will find hard at. it's much easier to cut attacks that go from the middle.

Thus far, our lack of quality hasn't been an issue simply because our opponents have mostly been deadbeats. This game is different though because belgium host some great technically gifted players. Not sure how much martinez has changed but having watched them in the euros, team belief and togetherness was lacking. I mean they made light work of easier opponents but struggled against well organized, resilient sides where mental strength becomes a factor. I wouldn't say that skibbe's side fits the above description but there is a sense of belief amongst the group that has been transparent in the performances. Hate to finish on a sour note, but that center back pairing doesn't not give confidence at all. We have been accustom to being defensively sound, but we can't really say that about this team. Good luck to the boys!

83 minutes in and Bosnia has scored 4 goals.

and people were bashing the Greek NT for scoring only 4 against Gibraltar?

This matchday is clearly a blessing. The fact that Belgium has so many injuries and players missing and that Bosnia can't even build Goal Difference past Gibraltar is literally good news. Escaping Belgium with 1 point would be a blessing as well.
