Bananas
We can't judge just yet. Last season was "year 1". He tried with the veterans and it didn't work out. Sometimes you just don't know how much fuel is in the tank until you just run the car until it stops. I am curious to see if he can build a new team. Will the new players take to him ? Time will tell. First half of the season will be up and down. Second half of the season I expect to see considerable improvement and a rough idea on who are really first team players and who isn't. Soprano76
Lucescu is very obviously a club legend but do you guys think he needs a change in approach? The PAOK youth teams have been doing very well in domestic competitions the past 5 or so years but barely any of them break through to the senior team. Look at a guy like Koutsias. Why is he in Chicago when he could be starting for PAOK up front? The MLS is probably a more competitive league than the Superleague too.

pash
Reportedly, Lucescu will be signing his new contract (+3 years) tomorrow. I can only hope this means the team will go all-in on giving him the tools (players) he needs to take us to the next level.
Blackhawk
Official contract signing will take place tomorrow. The new 3 year deal includes approximately 300K per year raise. The new contract calls for salaries totaling 2 mil per year for Lucescu and his coaching staff. Additionally, there is a buyout option set at 7 mil for any team outside of Greece in order to break his contract with PAOK. This buyout option is not is not applicable to any team from the countries in the Middle East. Buyout option for those teams is apparently much higher. pash
Does this mean Xanthi can get him back for less? ;)

pash
Our boy sat down for a one on one interview with my most hated journo, Stavros Kolkas. I'm only about ten minutes in, but pretty good so far.
Nea Bafra
Loved this interview @pash thank you. I'm also fascinated as to where it was shot. The random stuff on the bookshelf had me distracted. I have a feeling it is Lucescu's place as there is a Romanian-Greek dictionary Edited May 30, 2024 by Nea Bafra
pash
I kept looking at that Klopp book hahaha My favorite bit was when Kolkas gave a (very leading IMO) question about how important this trophy was. And Lucescu was like nah fam the Asian Champions League was the best.
pash
Looks like we're about to lose our goalkeeping coach. I think Bianchi was Lucescu's guy, and not the team's, right? Either way, time to start interviewing.
pash
Cristiano Bacci is also making a move; he'll now be the new head coach for Boavista FC over in Portugal. Good luck to him, and hopefully Lucescu's replacement is a good one.
paokarag4
Didn't he leave Lucescu's team last year? Unless I am mistaken I am sure he wasn't part of the coaching team this past season. And a quick google confirms it, seems like he worked at Udinese as an assistant this past season. I guess Lucescu's replacement was a good one! paokarag4
Apparently Lucescu is going to have a press-conference sometime during the international break (most likely this coming Friday), to give some "answers". Not sure an impromptu press-conference is necessary because of a few bad results, but the reaction in Thessaloniki to the teams form has been an intense one. Bananas
Guys, we'll never find another coach like Lucescu. He's a one off. Take that note and put it in your back pocket. There are better coaches out there, but you have to be realistic and ask what are the chances we could land them. If they're already proven they are going to better leagues. If they do come, it's because they're old and have lost the spark and are just looking for an easy pay day. They'll be used to having better players and bigger budgets and after dealing with the politics in Greece may just think it's not worth it. Do we really want to go through what Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have gone through in the last couple of years where they have fired and hired multiple coaches. The ridiculous thing is, we are only 1 point from the top. All of the teams are suffering from lack of consistency, not just us. Koulierakis leaving has left a big hole at the back. Let alone he had an eye for goal. A lot of people on here were cheering when he was sold. I honestly don't know why. I definitely wasn't. The only coaches I can think of we could possibly get as replacements is Ivic or Garcia but they are maybes. Who knows if they'll be interested and would they really do a better job? Other than that, it'd be a role of the die. Having said all that we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. And it could be Lucescu just wants to move on. Who the hell knows.
Blackhawk
Lucescu pretty much took the blame for the poor showing so far, and pointed out that the players need to start playing collectively as a team to get results. Prior to his press conference he also talked to the team behind close doors. let's see if they can turn things around.
pash
Keep in mind that PaokCT thinks himself a television pundit, so wants to stir up engagement. Unfortunately, he hasn't figured out how to monetize that yet. If you'll recall, he said Lucescu should be fired like six times last season, too. It is absolutely vital that Lucescu be supported by PAOK's administration. He's won with worse teams, and the first half of every season is always bad. It'll turn around.
Athens4
That is exactly the problem. They aren't supporting him because they are not getting him the players he needs.
