I liked what EPO said about 4 Greek players starting in Super League matches

It will never happen. The Superleague teams will not allow it.

More logical solution would be to limit the foreign players in the lower divisions.

It’s all about results. Performance has to be measured by wins first, and then by all the other parameters.

JVS alienated and pissed off some of our best talent. Trust was broken. Clearly they did not want to play for him. Then again, others were excluded from the lineup or squad. That’s not good.

Starting 11 has to include our best talent. There can be no rifts. Coach has to have the last say but we cannot not have our best players in the team.

Correct. It depends on current form. It also depends on who we are playing, and if experience required, warranted.

For example Manolas transfer market is nowhere near what it was in 2018, when playing at Roma. Still a quality player. On the other hand Mavropanos is valued at 17m euro and is having another solid year at Stuttgart.

Current Player Transfer Market Value (in euro): -

Mavropanos 17m

Vlachodimos 15m

Tzimikas 10m

Masouras 10m

Tziolis 10m

Bakasetas 10m

Gianoulis 7m

Fortounis 6m

Manolas 5m

Pelkas 5m

Bouchalakis 5m

Kyriakopoulos 4m

Siopis 3.8m

Mantalos 3.2m

Pavlidis 3m

Chatzidiakos 3m

Alexandrpoulos 2.5m

Athanasiadis 1.7m

Douvikas 1.5m

Limnios 1.5m

I don’t know how Bakasetas is valued at that price. In my opinion he was one of the reasons we couldn’t beat teams less than us. Along with JVS tactics and other poor selections.

I’ve noticed Sokratis is not even in the top 20 of most valuable Greek players in that list. I hope we bring back Manolas, Sokratis and Siovas so we don’t see players like Tzavellas in the squad anymore.

I read Poyet was impressed with Ioannidis of PAO who scored against AEK this past weekend. He’s not a bad striker and should be given a chance but I see Giakoumakis and Douvikas ahead of him as our best strikers.

Socratis current market value is 3m euro, link: https://www.transfermarkt.com/sokratis-papastathopoulos/profil/spieler/34322

Also, it's worth pointing out that Sporting Lisbon was ready to pay 12m euro for Bakasetas in Jan transfer period, but he declined it, citing he wanted to win the League with Trabzanspor: https://www.sport24.gr/football/mpakasetas-i-sportingk-plirone-ti-ritra-12-ekatommyrion-kai-ekeinos-arnithike.9548118.html.

Maropanos is ranked highest so guess what, he is the first CB, if not player period, picked, ahead of Sok, Siovas and Manolas. The figures are there for all to see.

The team chosen based on the figures :

                            Vlahodimos

(Masouras?) Mavropanos. Manolas. Tsimikas

                     Bouchalakis  Siopis

                            Bakasetas

  Masouras                                    Tzolis

                              Pavlidis

I don't agree with. all these selections, I would prefer:

Giakoumakis or Douvikas ahead of Pavlidis

Limnios ahead of Tzolis (not Tziolis for those who don't know the diff)

Fortounis, Ninis or even Pelkas ahead of Bakasetas.

Galanopoulos or Alexandropoulos ahead of Siopis

Well if we know one thing, Greeks are horrible gamblers. All the ones I know, including myself, lose at the casino!

Hopefully he does well and gets results right away as he said its about wins. Poyet's contract runs until December 2023 so if we don't win the NL we or perform badly we can replace him going into the Euro qualification.

Coaches need to have different tactics depending on the opponent.

The problem with Greece under JVS is that we struggled to beat Kosovo, Georgia at home. Tactics too predictable, and easy to defend against. The away match to Sweden 1st half was the blue print, with the only exception is that we didn’t score.

International coaching and Club coaching are very different.

Poyet will be coaching a national team for the first time. He may do alright or better. To be honest if we can’t top NL group C then he may not be the right man. Let’s see who he picks and what tactics he uses.

I think player selections for Greece is the biggest thing we need to get right to be successful in my opinion. Let’s just say Greece were a club and not a country, and there were transfers and selling involved. The positions we would need to upgrade are RB, CDM/CM, and CAM.

These specific positions along with the tactics that were employed by JVS hurt our chances of qualifying. Bakakis, Mavrias, Zeca, Kourbelis, Bouchalakis and Bakasetas are not good enough nor will they bring Greece to a major tournament again. I would drop these players completely out of the team just like how Samaris was dropped for the last couple of years. Also playing Stafylidis and Tzavellas at CB or in the the team in general doesn’t help either. As they are not needed as we have plenty of top quality CBs and LBs to choose from.

What I’m hoping for is that Poyet, recognises that these positions need upgrading and the players have that played in these positions are not good enough. The only player I would keep from that group would be Bouchalakis as he can be more serviceable then the other midfielders we have.

We need Fortounis and Galanopoulos to come back and start for this team. We need to try different options at RB until we get it right with like Kitsiou, Kotsiras and Masouras. Also if we play players in the right positions and play our most skilful and fastest players then we can get to a major tournament I believe.

Rumors are he is keen on getting Manolas, Papastathopoulos and Siovas back

That’s what I’ve heard aswell. Also he will apparently call up 40 players for the friendlies. Some of these players are players JVS banned from the team like Manolas, Kitsiou etc. Also he will call up players no one would expect. Sounds very interesting.

I'm fine with Manolas but I hope he doesn't call up Sokrates. He has nothing to offer anymore, especially in friendlies.  We have strong, younger CB's, we should go with them. And I am all for bringing up young players to get capped. Would be fun to see what they have to offer. But we have to be careful. We can't field teams where we will most likely lose as that would hurt us in rankings and morale. So it's got to be a sweet mix.

Totally agree, Sokrates has been caught out a fair bit lately and age wise there is not much point with him now

I am good with Manolas getting playing time and being a key piece of the team. As for Sokratis his form is off lately, maybe Poyet uses him of the bench and calls him up to mentor the younger players.

I still think Sokratis can be an option for Greece. I’d take him in the team over Tzavellas any day. Might even put him captain, he has more leadership characteristics than any of our current players. He always gave 100% for Greece.

But now that Mavropanos has been in great form and with Manolas and Siovas coming back I don’t know if he should be starting ahead of these players. I’d still have him in there though. Same with Kyriakos Papadopoulos if he’s healthy. He can still offer something too.
