georgelaz
russian league is pretty good. almost as good a portugal. zenit and cska moscow in particular. it's a strange league tho, seems like 80% ussr people and 20% brazilians. Off my first look at the squads. Edited January 1, 2017 by georgelaz
Nikitas
samaris has been put on the transfer list and probably will leave this month. apart from zenit there is interest from the premier league but samaris prefers zenit where he thinks he has more chance of starting. also a happy new year everyone. https://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=pt&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zerozero.pt%2Fnews.php%3Fid%3D187025&edit-text=&act=url http://gavros.gr/blog/podosfairo/pros-zenit-o-samaris-den-thelei-premier-ligk
Dean97
He should be pushing to play in the premier league. It's better for Greek players to be playing in competitive leagues like the EPL and push to be in the starting 11. This drive and desire can only do good for the national team. He is 27 and not 24, that's why he would rather play for Zenit, I don't blame him, he doesn't want to sit on the bench but it would be good to see him in the EPL. Nikitas
^he can try but he is to slow for the premier league , he will fail there for sure. he himself said that he fits better in the russian league.
Nikod
has any greek player ever had success in russia? The only ones I can think of who played there are Seitaridis (huge bust) and Karelis (no goals in nine matches according to wikipedia). Dean97
^ that's a good point but Samaris to me can do well in the premier league I don't know what he is worried about. He has a good touch most of the time and can play nice crisp passes. He is very strong aswell.
Nikitas
zenit offers benfica 20 million for samaris. https://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=pt&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fabola.pt%2Fclubes%2Fver.aspx%3Ft%3D3%26id%3D648928&edit-text=&act=url
Argy
It`s an isolated league that gets little exposure other than if sides make it to CL or EL. Zenit isn`t a bad team, but he'd be better off moving to mid-table England. Edited January 5, 2017 by Argy
Brklyngrk
A close friend of mine who is Portuguese and an avid Benfica fan told me Benfica is fond of Samaris. They view him as a good player who has a great attitude in the locker room. They are on the fence if they should sell him or not.
Nikitas
^well once again just as last time he was linked with them his agent and samaris say's that there is no contact between benfica and zenit and that samaris is happy with benfica. but the thing is he a benchplayer and probably will be untill the end of the season. https://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=pt&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maisfutebol.iol.pt%2Fgeral%2F05-01-2017%2Fsamaris-esta-feliz-no-benfica-garante-empresario-do-medio&edit-text=&act=url

Nikitas
apparently zenit didnt went higher then 10 million and benfica refused that , samaris also. benfica agreed with an offer from china but samaris didnt. sunderland and a championship club also made an offer and doubled his salary but samaris again refused. he wants to wait untill the end of the season and then decide. https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=nl&sl=pt&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dn.pt%2Fdesporto%2Fbenfica%2Finterior%2Fsamaris-recusou-ofertas-da-china-russia-e-de-inglaterra-5611823.html
Nikitas
all of a sudden more rumours about samaris and sunderland saying he can double his salary but i doubt he will go to a team who most likely is gonna relegate and when this season he can win the portugese league again and maybe 1 or 2 cups. a couple os times samaris mentioned that he really like to stay with benfica. http://talksport.com/football/sunderland-transfer-news-black-cats-target-benfica-midfielder-andreas-samaris-170120224589 https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=pt&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ojogo.pt%2Ffutebol%2F1a-liga%2Fbenfica%2Fnoticias%2Finterior%2Fsamaris-e-negocio-para-render-mais-de-20-milhoes-5617711.html&edit-text=&act=url

Nikitas
the latest about the sunderland rumour is about a loan deal with a buy option of 20 million but benfica wants more then that. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/580592/Andreas-Samaris-deal-Sunderland-transfer-news https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=nl&sl=pt&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fabola.pt%2Fnnh%2Fver.aspx%3Fid%3D652025

Nikitas
the coach of benfica blamed samaris for the most part in benfica's lost cup match against moreirense(who won the cup last weekend when they defetated braga in the final). when fejsa returned from injury yesterday he started again and samaris was left on the bench. benfica lost 1-0 against setubal. mitroglou started and played the whole match. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=pt&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cmjornal.pt%2Fdesporto%2Ffutebol%2Fdetalhe%2Fsamaris-alvo-de-criticas-de-rui-vitoria%3Fref%3DExclusivos_BlocoFimPagina&edit-text=&act=url

Greekaroos
According to reports out of Portugal and England, Newcastle want to sign Greece international Andreas Samaris from Benfica. The English side is offering €15 million for his transfer, however Benfica price Samaris at €20 million, double the amount they acquired him from Olympiacos a few years back. Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez is set on bringing the 28-year old midfielder to Saint James Park for the new Premier League season and despite the €5 million difference between the two sides, talks are expected to proceed and Samaris will sign with the English side. Samaris made 32 appearances last season in all competitions for the Portuguese champions. On the last day of the January transfer window he nearly signed with Sunderland, but Benfica saw Samaris’ departure as a big risk to the club after Danilo was already loaned out to Standard Liege.
