2009 Mediterranean Games (soccer)

There are 27 other competitions at the Mediterranean Games but this thread will focus on the soccer competition. Greece held the Games back in 1991 and will host them again in Volos and Larissa in 2013.

In the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Spain, in division play, Greece tied Tunisia 1-1 with a goal by Arampatsis and lost to first place Algeria 1-0 but managed to qualify for the quarterfinals where they lost to Turkey 1-0.

Greece won gold twice in soccer. The first was in 1951, where only 3 teams participated:

Greece secured 5th place in soccer by beating Turkey in penalties 6-5 (1:1 in regulation)
