From the BBC: Fifa backs Blatter on quota plan

Football's governing body Fifa has endorsed president Sepp Blatter's 'six-plus-five' principle, which would limit a team's foreign players to five. -- Read more

Is this legal? The EU commissioner in charge of employment issues says otherwise. The Times say: "This is Fifa looking for a way to stop the top clubs being so dominant in their respective leagues, and in Britain in particular. ...Every league in Europe has been won by the club with the most money and therefore a large percentage of foreign players and Fifa is afraid of that." -- Read more

Will this have any effect on Greek teams? Or on Greek Soccer for that matter? Would a shake-up like this be good for the game? Would it encourage the big teams to invest more in their youth training structures?

I think football should be acknowledged as an exception to the EU rules on employment. It's not just an enterprise it is a sport.

For the sake of the towns these teams compete in, the sport in their respective countries, the children who can no longer aspire to play for their favourite clubs, for the sake of fairness: limit foreign/naturalised players on teams and NTs!!!

where does unfairness come in ? if local players are not good enough its unfair on the clubs to not be allowed to look elsewhere for players, also they can only legally limit non EU nationals. for national teams i agree with you but not for club teams. turkey are the only country that presently have quotas in place, each squad can only have 6 foreign players but as they are not in the EU they can do as they please
