Larisa Transfers

GLASGOW, Scotland (Ticker) - Polish forward Maciej Zurawski has left Celtic to sign for Greek club Larissa, ending speculation that he would move to Major League Soccer.

Zurawski has been linked with MLS for the past several months, most often with the Los Angeles Galaxy, but there was little concrete evidence that he was on the verge of a move.

Zurawski, who scored 30 goals in 73 appearances for Celtic, had been looking for regular playing time after being warned by Poland coach Leo Beenhakker that his place in the Euro 2008 was under threat.

I dont think theyre age is that bad. if u think about it, Cleyton, Iglesias,Lambropoulos,Alexandrou, Para, Kyriakidis and Gikas are all under 23. Fotakis and sarmiento are both under 29 and they have kotsios and katsiaros who are 30. only dabizas forster and venetidis are over 30.

As for the galitsios loss, Larisa in the summer signed Mixalis Boukouvalas, who is 19 and was the RB the whole tournament for the national team of the Neon which went all the way to the finals. He showed huge promise but got hurt this season and had surgery. he will be ready come july. i think the way AEL showed capable of signing players, they will pick up a solid CB and possibly a keeper this summer.

Like I said on the days AEL signed Zurawski and Metin, AEL will push for a European spot now, and next season they'll def be there if they can add one or two good signings to the squad over the summer. However, Boukouvalas is not one of them. In the u-19 championships Greece's biggest weaknesses were the full backs. If Boukouvalas is getting exposed at u-19 level imagine what would happen to him in the Superleague or even in the UEFA Cup.

dont be too quick to judge a kid who is 19 years old. you saw him play 4 games. relax. the kid is 19 and has great promise.

Larissa beat Anorthosis to the signing of Peruvian international Nolberto Solano from West Ham on a free transfer. Excellent signing. He's good technically, a great passer and a free kick specialist. He'll do well for AEL.

Great player with the only downside is age but expect a similar performance to Radsinki in my opinion

Under rated but will vastly improve the team. Any player coming from starting in EPL can help in Greece. Just playing at the EPL pace improves you as a player.

if solano isn't in greece to collect a pension - a super signing. shocking, actually. if this player had no qualms about playing in greece, i can't believe his agent didn't contact an aek or aris for uefa cup football.

he's still 33...and will probably find the pace of greek league football perfect for him and his advanced age...able to measure his sprints and runs instead of the constant motion of english football.

great signing..class player. the only drawback for ael is solano's passion for playing for peru, which upset the continuity of his epl clubs. not sure if he is in the plans of peru's manager..let's see how that plays out.

I don't think he is in Greece to collect a pension. Anorthosis also wanted him and rumours are we offered more money, and he's apparently good friends with Ketsbaia so that would have been another motive for signing. Hence the only reason to join a Greek team would have been (1) to join a more prestigious and competitive league, (2) if he's serious about making the UEFA Cup with AEL next year, because Ano are fighting for CL football with UEFA Cup football as an insurance policy. So I'm sure he's serious about his move to Greece.

Aris would have been the most logical move imo. All those South Americans would have helped him settle and the style of play may have suited him too. It's great for the league though to see all of our teams strengthening. PAOK are looking pretty good and so are ARIS, so we should see a great battle for the UEFA Cup this year again.

that's quite strange! he's 35 now and looked in a very poor physical condition for about a year or so in Fenerbahce. :o

how is Ilic doing there? he's a very-well remembered figure for all the Galatasaray fans, not quite an icon like Hagi, Sukur or Mondragon but still i hope him the very best because he's the sort of guy who does everything he can to help his team win. does Larisa have a fee clause to purchase him after the loan, any ideas?

Very good transfer, I dont really understand how/why he went to Salzburg after Galatasaray, where he did quite well.

He left because the management made him feel that he wasn't wanted anymore at the club. Galatasaray finished that season in third spot fourteen behind Fener and nine behind Besiktas and even though Sasa had a fine performance (11 goals, 10 assists), he was victimised and felt he had to go even though fans loved him.

Another reason for him to be gone was the long-awaited signature of Lincoln from Schalke, though ironically when you look at their contributions in their two-year spells each we have Sasa who had 23 goals - 17 assists whose contributions have been way superior compared to Lincoln's (12 goals - 15 assists).

The fee paid (€ 870k) to Galatasaray by Red Bull Salzburg for his services is ridicuolous compared to what he has accomplished. He was probably the last worst piece of business (among with losing Ribery for free because of him not getting paid, the stadium saga, coaches getting sacked and paid huge amounts of compensation etc) by the Canaydin dynasty. Luckily now, we have a Board who send scouts to nearly everywhere, who can sign players of Baros and Kewell's calibre for realtively small amounts and who can express interest in top-class players like Miguel, Emmanuelson and Seitaridis...
