Dynamo's Fotsis breaks all-time rebounds record!

A historical night that saw Dynamo Moscow reach the Quarterfinal Playoffs in its debut Euroleague season came with a major protagonist. Power forward Antonis Fotsis broke the all-time Euroleague record for most rebounds in a single game by pulling 24 boards during Dynamo's dramatic, do-or-die 68-65 overtime victory against Benetton Treviso at home in Moscow on Wednesday. Fotsis also scored 22 points for Dynamo, including the only 3 in the final minute of regulation, forcing the extra period. The rebounds record had belonged to Mirsad Turkcan, then of CSKA Moscow, who had grabbed 23 in an 88-83 regular season home win against Buducnost on January 10, 2002. Fotsis joins Turkcan in a select club of players who have taken at least 20 rebounds in a Euroleague Basketball game. The others are Florent Pietrus, Dejan Milojevic and one of Dynamo's opponents on Wednesday, Spencer Nelson.

It comes as no surprise that Dynamo outrebounded Benetton 56-27 as a team to get its all-important, playoff-clinching victory. Fotsis pulled down 15 defensive rebounds and 9 in offense. Turkcan still ties with Joseph Blair for most defensive rebounds in a Euroleague Basketball game with 17 apiece while Gregor ***ka, Travis Watson and Quadre Lollis share the record for most offensive rebounds with 11 each.

His performance also gave Fotsis just the third 20-20 performance in Euroleague history, too. Turkcan had 27 points and 23 rebounds in that CSKA-Buducnost game in 2002, while Nelson had 23 points and 20 rebounds playing for GHP Bamberg against his current team, Benetton Treviso, on December 22, 2005
