  1. Player ratings:

Vlachodimos - wasnt really tested (0)

    Mavrias - was average (2.5)

Hatzidiakos - was okay until that red card (2.5)

Tzavellas - won a couple of headers (2.5)

Tsimikas - okay but nothing really spectacular (3)

    Zeca - tried hard (2.5)

Bakasetas - a shot, and some good ideas, but that was all (2.5)

Kourbelis - he was not a jot better than Bouchalakis against Moldova (2.5)

Limnios - skilled but was ultimately useless today (2.5)

Giakoumakis - hardly touched the ball in the last 15 minutes of the first half (1.5)

Fortounis - he should have been CAM during this campaign, good passes (3)

Subs: Pavlidis was better than Giakoumakis, but not that much - and he also couldnt score (2), Tzolis was not above average (2), Masouras fought hard but he also couldnt dish out an assist or to score (-), Kyriakopoulos was on the pitch for 2 minutes (-).

Van T Schip organized the team and we got some fine results but we will perhaps lose our Pot 3 position because of his Bakasetas mania. But for that hole in his conception, we could have won the second Kosovo game (I mean Fortounis would have converted that penalty). A good overall display from the team in Nations League, but results were not that great. Overall JVS is an okay coach even if he makes strange decisions (he practically kicked Manolas Siovas Papastathopoulos out of the squad, he chooses Bakasetas as team captain, penalty taker and regular CAM, uses unreliable Tzavellas as a center back) but we could not won this easy group.

A lot of really good points here!

Bouchalakis is and has always been a confidence player. He had 2 attempted smart passes to split the defensive lines that were unsuccessful and to our surprise(after viewing the match data) did substantial work on the defensive side of the ball. However, he is not and will never be a real deep lying playmaker. He lost the ball in possession 9 times, which led the ethniki last night. Unfortunately, it's not as if we get much more out of Kourbelis either. This national team is missing the likes of a healthy and in form Galanopoulos.

Pavlidis should never have been used in this game. This is something that frustrates us to no end with JVS. Game script seems to elude him. In a more open match, Pavlidis is probably the better hold up player. But in a game where the team you're playing is packing the box and playing ultra defensive, Pavlidis is useless(as we saw yesterday). He was only successful in 29% of all on field actions. Abysmal. Giakoumakis should have been the starter here.

As for Masouras vs. Tzolis, obviously we'd all prefer to see Tzolis as he has waaaaaay more potential. Masouras works well with Tsimikas and we'd rather see a real winger playing left wing instead of Fortounis out of position who ends up drifting central most of the time anyway. This then can leave our LB stranded in certain scenarios.

All in all, we saw some good things and some bad. Let's hope for the best against Slovenia!

I would prefer to see Masouras (I do not have a liking for potential) but apart from that this is a fine analyse!

Lykogiannis has been called up to replace the injured Giannoulis. It's not expected anyone is going to be called to replace Mantalos and Svarnas, given there were already 27 players called up.

With Svarnas out, its basically a lock that Chatzidiakos and Tzavellas will start at center back in the Nations League games. The friendly will probably be Lampropoulos and Michailidis.

The Mantalos out opens up a spot in the starting 11, will JVS go with the safer option in Masouras or will he start Fortounis who against the parked bus that will be Moldova will be important.

This was a wholly correct prediction, I would like to admit that! Chatzidiakos - Tzavellas, and Fortounis was really important.

But for the (blessed) injury of Giannoulis, we wouldnt have seen Kyriakopoulos, a Serie A defender, and but for the absence of Mantalos Fortounis would have started on the bench. We were a bit lucky against Moldova (some injuries/sicknesses can be blessings in disguise - I know it is a mean thing to say this).

That is absolutely true. He F***ed up literally almost everything in the last 25 minutes. He had a chance, it went wholly wide. Free kick at the end, handball, was dispossessed, it was painful to watch. And he was now even captain! The only negative thing in our asset.

And his corner kick around the 85th minute, it was cleared perhaps by the first defender, or was it the second? Why does he even play?

Zeca, Limnios, Kyriakopoulos, Chatzidiakos, Bouchalakis, Chatzigiovannis and even Mavrias were really good, however. Giakoumakis should have been subbed in a little earlier perhaps?

Nevertheless, it was nice to see the Ethniki playing so fast and well. A good overall production.

Mpakasetas probably promised sex to the manager hence the captaincy + full 90 minutes.

He's probably the worst technically player I've seen in a long time, trying to convince people how he is supposed to play as a "10". So freaking sad.

Skopjia qualified it's first ever European Championship appearance after beating Georgia 1-0.
This makes me so mad that Greece isn't in and they are!

FYROM will participate in Euro 2021???

f***ing Lampropoulos destroyed us with that own goal against Estonia. But for that guy and the idiocy of Anastasiadis who started our B team that game, we would have reached the play off.

he really has been around for a while; still, says a lot about Olympiakos (in a bad way) that a has-been like Avraam is getting CL minutes.

Marinakis doesnt like to spend his money on class players like Kokkalis did (Giovanni Karembeu etc.). In earnest, he probably gave up the Champions League long ago as hopeless and he wants to dominate only at home (with alternating success).

El Arabi scored at last against Zvezda. It was a long long way to go with players like these (Camara Randjelovic Benzia).

One of the most over rated Greek defensmen who got away with murder because he played for Olympiakos. On top of that he should have been kicked out of football altogether for involvement in illegal football betting

Did he really killed somebody? ?

I know about the matchfixing case. I think he had been eventually acquitted.

  9. Marinakis helped Olympiacos to win the Super League several times but I think he gave up  Champions League from the beginning. If you want to reach a certain stage (QF, SF) you should sign better players than Ba, El Arabi, Guilherme, Gaspar and the likes. I guess he thinks CL is a hopeless case for a Greek team cannot compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. He doesnt want to give out big money; it is enough for him that Olympiacos could dominate at home.

  10. Guys I am an outsider in these things but I think Kokkalis made far better signings. It was not only Giovanni. He tried to build a really strong team that could compete with European powerhouses like Juventus. In 1999, Olympiacos reached the quarter finals of Champions League and they lost to Juventus 2-3 (on aggregate). He signed Rivaldo (Golden Ball winner, world champion), Karembeu (world and European championships, Champions League winner with Real Madrid), Zahovic (played in the Champions League final in 2000), Raul Bravo and a lot of Greek internationals like Giannakopoulos Mavrogenidis Venetidis Patsatzoglou Antzas Nikopolidis. So far, Marinakis has signed only one classy player, Valbuena and even he is not a world class footballer like Rivaldo was.
