  1. It's one step forward and two back. For the 2022 NL we are in League C and ranked 33rd-48th in Europe which means for Euro 2024 ranking we are languishing in Pot 3 / Pot 4. If we struggle in the Nations League 2022, we could end up in Pot 4 ranking for Euro 2024, which would be bad.

Best thing we can aim for is to stay Pot 3 and hope that the team can develop and be competitive for a qualification spot in Euro 2024.

  2. I’ll be really surprised if JVS stays.

At the end of the day it’s results that matter and 1-1 draws with Kosovo and Georgia is really not good enough.

So if he goes, who should be the next Greece coach? Some names mentioned.

    Donis

    Dellas

    Ouzounidis

    Valverde

    Santos

There are many good coaches out there.

We have a lot of good young players just starting their international careers, others that are in their late 20s who are going well and others who may fall out favour. I still believe with right team selections and good player management there are better days ahead for Greece.

  3. It's not easy making a WC. There are 13 favorites to qualify out of Europe, i.e. Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, England, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Croatia, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland.

If you think about it, there are 3, maybe 4 spots from Europe which are being fought by 12-16 nations. As much as it hurts, to miss out again, the best we could have achieved is finish 2nd in the Group and extended the campaign to playoffs. Still a lot of improvement is needed, and it's small steps for now. Greece NT can make it to Euro 2024 in Germany where chance to qualify will be better.

Our next goal must be to top our NL Group, and get promoted to League B, and continue to improve our FIFA ranking. NL 2022 starts in Jun 2022.

  4. You are too harsh. Pavlidis is not s@#t, and he is skillful. He is 22 and will have plenty of time to make a mark with NT. It's good to have more than one option at the Striker position.

JVS has made progress with the NT that was in a shambles when he took over. However, lose or draw with Kosovo then it may be his last. He has not been helped by injuries and suspensions to key players in this campaign and that may ultimately work in his favor. The biggest compliment came from the Spain coach, who said "η Ελλάδα είναι μια καλοδουλεμένη ομάδα από τον προπονητή της και αυτό φάνηκε στο δεύτερο μέρος που μας δημιούργησε προβλήματα".

  5. The thing is, we do have a lot of players who play in same positions and are left out because the coach is picking players he needs to cover different positions both in the starting line up and on the bench.

However, calling up Stafylidis and Koutris both LBs, and who are not regulars at club level, and then not picking say someone like Kyriakopoulos who plays each week at Sassuolo in Italy Serie A is hard to understand. Unless, he’s worried we’re going to need more defensive muscle in midfield.

I would have left out one of Stafylidis, Koutris, and brought in Kyriakopoulos and replaced Mantalos or Vrousai with Kolovos whose in form at Sheriff, and proving he can match intensity in UCL.  I think Kolovos would be a better backup for Bakasetas. Saying that, we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, so there may be other factors impacting selections.

As it was noted, we need to go for the win in these next two matches.

  6. Yes that’s correct, but we can get 2nd with 16 pts, on the assumption we get at least a win and a draw with Sweden and Spain i.e.,

Win Sweden and draw Spain (preferered) or

    Draw Sweden and win Spain.

In the 2nd scenario all three countries may finish with 16 pts assuming Spain then beat Sweden in the final match and we could miss out on 2nd spot on goal difference.

All this assumes Greece and Sweden beat Georgia and Kosovo. Maybe Sweden will, but with Greece this is not guaranteed.

  7. Simply we need to win at least 3 and draw 1  and finish 16 pts and with a bit of luck get 2nd.

One good thing about this Greek team is they don’t lose easily.

Surely the Sweden win gives the team belief they can do it. It would be great if we can get to Nov and the last game at home with Kosovo and still have a chance. That alone would be amazing and show that the team is headed in the right direction.
