  1. Stefanos Kapino made his competitive debut for Arminia Bielfeld in the German Bundesliga match away to RB Leipzig after goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and midfielder Manuel Prietl tested positive for COVID. Sebastian Vasiliadis a German born Greek slotted in for Manuel Prietl. Arminia Bielfeld whom are in second last position in the table ended up with a surprising 0-2 win with a man less from the 70th minute after a red card.

  2. I noticed Borussia Dortmund had a player by the of Antonios Papadopoulos coming on as substitute in overnight German Bundesliga action at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. German born Antonios Papadopoulos is a 21 year old defensive midfielder with German nationality but Greek heritage & yet to represent Germany or Greece at any level. Borussia Dortmund won 5-2.

    Sotiris Ninis
    Lazaros Christodoulopoulos

  4. Mitroglou just needs to stay injury free & then the goals will come. He seems to pickup an injury after every 5 to 10 matches. Just when he is about to pick up momentum is back on the bench recovering or returning from injury. He didn’t get a real chance to show his value at Galatasaray. If not back at Olympiacos he would be a gun at Glasgow Celtic. I reckon 40 goals a season in the SPL

  5. I’ve got a feeling that Manolas might be heading to Juventus. I saw a article somewhere saying that Cristano Ronaldo wants him at Juve. Personally I would like to see him at one of the two Spanish La Liga giants Barca or Real if not Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal or Bayern Munich.

  6. BIG Bundesliga Super Debut!!

Antonis Aidonis, 17 year old centre-back makes his debut in Bundesliga, with Stuttgart, in a game v Wolfsburg, wearing jersey No23. Antonis is a key figure this season in the Stuttgart U19 squad making 17 apps in the U19 Bundesliga Youth. He has a professional contract with his club till 30.6.21.
Antonis is a key figure of the German U17 national squad (15 apps-3 goals)!!  Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany but can still play for Greece, the country of heritage.

  7. Greece will face Switzerland on March 23rd at the OAKA stadium in Athens and four days later, will travel to Switzerland to play Egypt in another international friendly. The first two tests will be Greece’s first as they kickoff their preparations for the upcoming UEFA Nations League and UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers.

    Below is Greece's’ 27-man roster:

Goalkeepers: Karnezis (Watford), Gianniotis (Atromitos), Barkas (AEK)

Defenders: Torosidis (Bologna), Bakakis (AEK), Stafylidis (Stoke City), Manolas (Roma), Papastathopoulos (Dortmund), Lykogiannis (Cagliari), Tzavellas (Alaynaspor), Retsos (Leverkusen), Papadopoulos (Hamburg)

Midfielders: Tachtsidis (Olympiacos), Tziolis (Al-Fayha FC), Pelkas (PAOK), Kourbelis (Panathinaikos), Zeca (FC Kobenhavn), Samaris (Benfica), Fortounis (Olympiacos), Christodoulopoulos (AEK)

Strikers: Bakasetas (AEK), Mitroglou (Marseille), Karelis (Genk), Gianniotas (Valladolid), Donis (Stuttgart), Limnios (PAOK), Koulouris (PAOK)

  8. Question to all:

Was the Watford v Chelsea match on 5 February 2018 the first time that two Greek footballers were in the starting lineup of a English Premier League match?

There probably was two or three having started for Sheffield United in the English League Championship back in the late 90’s & not sure if Angelos Basinas & Kostas Chalkias ever started in the same match for Portsmouth?

Our best years were with Rehaggel and Santos. We havent qualified for tournament since 2014. That says a lot. Christodoulopoulos and Kone were our best players at the World Cup. Along with Sokratis and Manolas.

I still think Maniatis can be useful. He runs and has more sense with the ball than Tziolis. Tzavellas is only good for free kicks and Tziolis is not good for anything anymore.

I hope we go with these players in Euro 2020:

Kapino, Barkas, Vlachodimos, Bakakis, Lykogiannis, Retsos, Stafylidis, Tzimikas, Sokratis (c), Manolas, Papadopoulos, Risvanis, Tachtsidis, Samaris, Kourbelis, Zeca, Fortounis, Mantalos, Androutsos, Donis, Lamprou, Mitroglou, Karelis.

Others to mention: Pelkas, Gianniotas, Bakasetas, Katranis, Anestis, Gianniotis, Giannoulis (leftback, looks promising), Koutris, Diamantakos, Limnios, Manthatis, Galanopoulos, Chatzigiovannis, Vellios, Mavrias, Siopis.

I'm a fan of Barkas and Tzimikas. I don't know if they will be in the squad. Probably Anestis and Koutris will. Risvanis can back up our 3 best centrebacks. I think Androutsos will make a name for himself soon. I also believe we have depth at leftback. If I were coach I would have Manthatis looked after. I would make sure he get playing time for his club. I believe he can be useful on the wing and replace Christodoulopoulos. Lamprou and Limnios was hard to decide with so I chose height.

    Agree 100%

i can't describe how depressed, emotionally drained and embarrassed i am with how we played, more than this result

this is a result that equals the Faroe ISLAND adventure

we played like a bunch of hopeless hesmena mounia. thank god we wore blue, because if we were wearing white, you would see plenty of steaks on the white shortsakia. what kind of pass did tzavelas make to begin the fiasco? how was his man marking on the second? on this play samaris lets his man go for a little jog, sokratis tries to cover him and let's his man for tzavellas who is looking to bum a smoke.  why are people blaming maniatis for this one again?   SAMARIS again out of position ..... clown ........ ahhhh and the third ...who's to blame again? the common denominators.

WHAT was skibbster thinking? formation wise?

we started a bunch of vaginas... and i'm going easy on them

    samaris? tzavellas? tziolara? maniatis?

stafilidis was s%$#!... but we don't have many other options....call jose Skibbarouni

we put mom zeca on the right wing?  is skibbe still doing oktoberfest coke??--- YOU're FIRED ... F*** off

have we no pride? have we no honour? a portogalo bled more for this team than anybody else?

biggest games of the campaign and we were just not ready. croatia did their homework. they ordered their players to press us up high and create turnovers. we ordered champagnes, poura and louloudia for sunday night .....

this will hurt for a very long time

    EMBARRASSING . --

Croatia were at a different class to Greece. A complete different level.  Croatia have players whom are playing regular for FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan etc while Greece’s players with the exception of Sokratis Papastathopoulos & Kostas Manolas are currently at smaller clubs & most not playing regular if any football.

  11. No away fans will be allowed to attend either leg of Croatia’s World Cup playoff games against Greece due to concerns over crowd violence, the Croatian Football Association (HNS) announced on Thursday.

“The leaderships of the HNS and the Greek Football Association have agreed in Athens today that there will be no away fans section in either of the two legs of the World Cup playoff tie between the two teams,” the HNS said.

“Having taken into consideration the risk factors and the security assessments, both football associations have made a joint decision not to sell any tickets to the away fans in either match. FIFAUEFA and other governing bodies have been notified of the decision.”

The first leg game will take place in Dinamo Zagreb’s Maksimir stadium on Nov. 12, with the return fixture at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Piraeus three days later.

A Euro 2012 qualifier between the two teams in 2011 was marred by serious crowd trouble in Athens, when masked Greek fans hurled flares at visiting Croatia supporters, who in turn ripped seats and threw them at riot police.

Animosity between Croatian and Greek fans is fuelled by friendly ties between hard-core Greek fans and those coming from Croatia’s bitter Balkan rivals Serbia, with the brethren groups often joining forces when either team plays the Croatians at club and international levels.
