  3. There have been a number of great Pontian footballers that have featured in the Ethniki over the years. What would a Pontian side look like today? I'll have a go, feel free to make your own XI, let me know if I've missed someone or correct me if I'm wrong about the origins of any footballers! 4. Quite frankly, I'm holding a small basket. Not trying to get my hopes up. Unless I see a picture of that fatass is jail or UEFA coming out with a statement barring them from Europe etc, I'm not getting worked up about this.

  7. His selection to the national team was based on merit. He could have turned the national team down and went to play for Albania, it was his choice. He's allowed to acknowledge his Albanian decent. Now if he could only play better.....

  8. I am in shock! I never expected the Greek justice system to act upon a person who has bought and sold the entire football industry in Greece! Seems that times change! I hope the Justice system expedites the process and all interested parties end up behind bars! This would be justice! Anything less would just be a slap on the hand! We are far from a conviction and consequences! We have come a long way and this is a good start! Mia kalli Elliniki paroimia leei: "o pseftis kai o kleftis ton proto xrono xairontai?!"

  11. Greece: Olympiakos chairman released on bail AP10:02 a.m. EDT June 18, 2015 http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/2015/06/18/greece-olympiakos-chairman-released-on-bail/28915407/ ATHENS, Greece (AP) ? The chairman of Greek champion Olympiakos has been suspended from sporting activities and released on bail after testifying on Thursday in an investigation into alleged corruption in Greek football, putting at risk his side's Champions League spot. Court officials said Vangelis Marinakis was ordered to appear twice a month at his local police station as part of the conditions of his bail, which was granted after testifying for more than five hours. The bail was set at 200,000 euros ($230,000). Prosecutors are investigating allegations that Marinakis led a criminal organization that instigated bribes and blackmail attempts to try and fix results in the top flight of the Greek league. Marinakis denies the allegations, accusing rival clubs of making false claims against him. The investigation is ongoing and no decision has been made on whether Marinakis will stand trial. UEFA rules bar entry to the Champions League and Europa League for any club involved in fixing matches since April 2007 In August 2011, Turkish champion Fenerbahce was withdrawn from the group stage by its national federation while its president was implicated in fixing matches to win the previous season's league title. UEFA reinstated Trabzonspor which had been eliminated in the qualifying rounds. Panathinaikos was league runner-up last season and could be upgraded to the Champions League group stage from the third qualifying round.

  14. Our chances are now infinitesimal. It is distressing that for the time being Markari?n seems not to understand (yet) the necessity of us concentrating on defending first of all. I think that was mainly the cause of our recent losses. Even against Poland we didnt concentrate on defense, only we had three defensive-minded players on the pitch (Tziolis, Katsouranis, Tachtsidis). We could have won that match I think with less invested energy, if we would have been concentrating on defense and counterattacks. So we needed performances of high quality (by Katsouranis, Kapino and Moras, to a lesser extent by Tziolis, Vyntra and Tavlaridis) to secure the draw. We must go back to our former system unless we dont want more problems against Romania, NI & Co.

  17. UEFA doesnt need to be formally approached by anyone. Rest assured they are closely monitoring this case. For those who are unclear how this may unfold, I provide an extract of a legal blog summarising what happened to Fenerbahce in 2011/12. Note some of the similarities. The 2011 Turkish match-fixing series in brief In the summer of 2011, following Turkish?s police investigation into 19 football matches suspected of being fixed, 61 individuals were arrested, including club managers and Turkish national players. Fenerbah?e, Besiktas and Eski?ehirspor were connected with match-fixing allegations in domestic tournaments in 2011. Istanbul giant Fenerbah?e was at the epicentre of this match-fixing scandal, with its Chairman, Aziz Yildirim, being convicted by Istanbul?s 16th High Criminal Court of establishing and leading a criminal organisation, which rigged four games and offered payments to players or rival clubs to fix three others. Particularly, among other matches, it was found that under the leadership of the then President of Fenerbah?e, match-fixing agreements were made for the matches of Eski?ehirspor against Fenerbah?e and Eski?ehirspor against Trabzonspor dating from 9 April 2011 and 22 April 2011 respectively. The Eski?ehirspor head coach and the player were found guilty for match-fixing in the match with Trabzonspor and were sentenced to imprisonment. Furthermore, the High Criminal Court convicted Besiktas? Officials of match-fixing activities with regard to the Final Cup played between Besiktas and Istanbul BB on 11 May 2011. As a result of this alleged match-fixing involvement Fenerbah?e was banned by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) from participating in the 2011-2012 CL. Later on, the 25 July 2013, Fenerbah?e was found ineligible by the UEFA Appeals Body (UAB) to participate in the next two UEFA club competitions including the 2013/14 UEFA CL, since it could not comply with the UEFA Champions League (UEL) admission requirements. Similarly, Besiktas and Eski?ehirspor, in 2013 and 2014 respectively, were considered by the UAB ineligible to participate in the next UEL season, on the grounds of a breach of the UEL admission criteria and particularly of Article 2.08. A next round of proceedings was brought before the CAS. On 28 and 30 August 2013, the CAS rejected Fenerbah?e?s and Besictas? appeals.[4] One year later, on 2 September 2014, Eski?ehirspor faced the same fate. Interestingly enough, the Eski?ehirspor panel was the first CAS panel to deal with the sanction of a club victim of a match-fixing arrangement. The outcome of the Turkish cases is not necessarily surprising. The CAS practice has been consistently embracing the UEFA zero tolerance policy against match-fixing. http://www.asser.nl/SportsLaw/Blog/post/the-cas-jurisprudence-on-match-fixing-in-football-what-can-we-learn-from-the-turkish-cases-part-1-by-thalia-diathesopoulou

  18. Correct. He can keep his shares however cant be involved in the decision making or operations. The question here is when does UEFA start getting involved.

  22. Well iv heard names such as Robinho, Vidiv, Alex, Pato, Karigio (if that's how you spell it) and all they got was Giannotas, which in all honesty is a good player and signing for them but is he a type of player that's going to win them games and them into the knockout stages of CL? Hell no!!!! Their papers talks s%$#! and that's all they can do. As for their fans I don't bother with them they are deluded, there are only a handful of them I know in Sydney who can actually admit their president is scum and only cares for his pocket, the rest turn a blind eye and try banter me on it which I laugh at because some know better than to turn a blind eye, makes me laugh because in other leagues around the world, for example the EPL they would bag me with Man Utd buying refs and titles yet they don't see their own halia back home, hence why I say I don't bother with them. I let them talk because that's all their they're good at, talking!!

  23. PAOK didn't get F***ed? They were benefitted by match fixing in Europe so they advanced in the champions league two seasons ago. I just hope we aren't disappointed tomorrow

  25. There is no more of these...Don't jump into the bandwagon. If the same measures are taken tomorrow, then Oly should lose his CL spot, but it can also be worse than today
