Everyone crying abou the rankings now that we are falling , noone gave a f*ck when we were 10th-12th. You guys are funnier than the Fifa Ranking.

Btw I predict a 2nd spot finish in the World Cup qualifying group. 1 defeat and 1 draw from belgium. 1 win 1 defeat from Bih . 4 wins fro the rest. Also 2 draws at the friendly russians , either 0-0 or 1-1.

Also fuq the rankings. We saw teams like NI,Hungary and Iceland qualifying , while they were expected a max 4th? spot.  If our team rolls it can win every pot 2-pot 5 team(except teams that should be in pot 1 but they aren't like Croatia,Italy,France).

Especially this group has been a blessing .

Im gonna make a post about Skibbe and the group at the coaches thread.

Greece up two spots and are currently ranked 39th.

Expect Greece to drop heavily after euro 2016. The points they gained from world Cup 2014 will be devalued. Also, the points they got from euro 2012 will be completely gone (since the rankings only assess the last 4 years of games)

^Damn it... But to be honest when was the last time we actually beat a half decent team? I would have to say it goes all the way back to the Ivory Coast so as much as I want to climb the FIFA standings we don't really deserve too.

It's been over 15 years since we've been this low in the rankings.

Start winning and the rankings take care of themselves. Nothing to worry about.

Of course we are going to get the usual posters in here proclaiming that it's all doom and gloom and wanting the ghosts of Rehhagel past to come back.

Patience my miserable friends. Patience!

60 if he plays two positions.

You forgot to mention that the 2nd position he plays he is nothing but an average player of the GSL.

What is K.Paps to you that you praise him so much brah? Family or smthing ? The guy is weak and plays like a tragi in every game , ending up injured every 2 months and staying 2-4 months out. He ll never make it big for this reason.

Kpaps is his only 4 apperances in 2015 half of them the opponents did not score 0-0. The other two matches they only scored a goal. He's a huge lift to the team and should be started whenever available.

One of our main issues is that our attack doesn't have pace. Mitroglou, Samaris, Tachtsidis are our top tier options and are quite slow. Fortounis is decently speedy though. Fetfa through us under the bridge with his Saudi move, he should've been starting whenever available as well. He adds another dimension to our attack.

Imagine Holebas LW & Fetfatzidis RW, Mitroglou up top. We'd make some great plays for sure.

P.S. everyone here vote for Greek league to be in the next fifa. We're only at 30k votes right now! (Turkish second division is at 550 000) I know they outnumber us but still the Israeli division is on top and they have even less numbers than us!

Brazil

England

Italy

Spain

Argentina

France

Germany

Belgium (just this golden generation)

Portugal (reluctant saying this cause we've had their number past decade)

The above teams are the only teams that I think will pretty almost always be better than us.

other than at, rank is up for grabs.

with extremely efficient managing, we're a top 10 side.

I'm still glad we avoided England. At the euro they were pretty bad but they have big Sam allardyce as coach now who is waayyyyyyy better then their previous coach. England do actually have some pretty good players, and I actually think now England are going to be much better and will probably do well at the world Cup (call my crazy I know lol)

SKIBBE SET FOR BIG DECISIONS AHEAD OF BOSNIA MATCH

The Greek National Team’s crucial match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in European Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching. The away qualifier, to be played at the Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica on June 9th, is a vital match that could go a long way in determining Greece’s chances for a place at Russia 2018.
In the coming weeks, Ethniki boss Michael Skibbe will announce the squad for that crucial qualifier. And Skibbe will have some big decisions to make as five players will miss the match against the Bosnians. Andreas Samaris, Giorgos Tzavellas, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, and Panagiotis Tachtsidis are all ruled out due to suspension, with Samaris having accumulated yellows while Tzavellas and Tachtsidis were both sent off in the team’s last qualifier against Belgium. Kyriakos Papadopoulos will be serving his final match suspension for his actions against Bosnia in Greece.
Also absent from the team will be long-term injury victim Nikos Karelis.
Skibbe is widely reported to be interested in calling up left-back Babis Lykogiannis for the first time. The Sturm Graz player has impressed with his performances as of late putting himself in the frame for a call-up to the senior team after having represented Greece at youth level.
Another player to have represented Greece’s younger national teams is also in line for a first call-up. Panathinaikos’ Dimitris Kourbelis could be selected as a back-up defensive midfielder.
It’s a big question whether Skibbe will call up Kourbelis and also keep faith in the young talent that were drafted into the squad recently. The smart money is that the German manager will hold onto the likes of Thanasis Androutsos and bring in Kourbelis and Giorgos Manthatis. It wouldn’t exactly be called a youth revolution, however it would a clear sign that Skibbe values what young Greek talent can bring to the table.
Goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis is set for a return to the team meaning that more than likely Dimitris Kyriakidis will be dropped from the squad.
There could be some more surprises depending on injuries, however for now the squad is expected comprise of the players that were selected for the Belgium match.
Below is the predicted squad for the match against Bosnia:
Goalkeepers: Orestis Karnezis, Stefanos Kapino, Panagiotis Glykos
Defenders: Kostas Manolas, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Vasilis Torosidis, Marios Oikonomou, Kostas Stafylidis, Babis Lykogiannis
Midfielders: Zeca, Manolis Siopis, Kostas Fortounis, Giannis Maniatis, Petros Mantalos, Alexandros Tziolis, Thanasis Androutsos, Dimitris Kourbelis
Forwards: Kostas Mitroglou, Giorgos Manthatis, Dimitris Diamantakos, Apostolos Vellios, Giannis Gianniotas, Tasos Bakasetas

Brazil became the first country to qualify for this event after their 3-0 win over Paraguay. Uruguay and Argentina could go in front of them if they win everything and Brazil loses everything, but as they will face eachother one of them will fail to qualify directly (#5 will play a play-off).

I believe this match will make or break Michael Skibbe's managerial career.
it has a feel of 7 June 2003, Spain v Greece. Michael Skibbe has two or three uncapped youngsters from the Olympiacos system plus Mystakidis fom PAOK whom could mix in well with the tough & experienced campaigners of Karnezis, Sokratis, Manolas, Torosidis, Tzavellas, Samaris, Fortounis, Mitroglou & maybe a few others whom have been around the squad for quite a while to create the right formula to cause a upset away to Belgium.
My prediction is Belgium 1 Greece 1.

This will probably be the biggest match of the campaign. We can put ourselves in a great position to go to Russia with a win here.

Friendly for the ethniki at home to Belarus in Piraeus at Karaiskaki. Good warmup for the bigger game 4 days later.

My heart won't be pulled in two directions here. Cyprus looking for their first win at the Bosnians. Of course, last time Kypro went to Bosnian soil, worked out pretty damn well!

Hooray, no conflicting emotions here. The ethniki are off to Tallinn to visit Estonia. Need to keep the pace with another win.

Greece's Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign begins with a away match against FIFA's newest member Gibraltar on 6 September 2016 at the Estádio Algarve in Portugal.
    • By Greekaroos
Greece not qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2016 finals tournament in France could work in their favor in qualification for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup. The players get a proper off-season break. Complacency will not creep into the squad after being brought back down to earth in Euro 2016 qualifying.
