Giorgos Samaras ‒ (retired)

Considering where he currently is in his career a move to the red bulls would be a good thing, they are the best team in mls this season, they seem to play a high energy pressing game so any laziness won't be tolerated, let's see if he can take this seriously if it's true.

If he plays in MLS I would not be opposed to him playing for the ethiniki again.

Gignac is playing Mexican league right now and scored against Germany this week for France.

MLS is better than the Scottish league is now IMO anyways. Drogba, Kaka, Pirlo, Villa - even at their 30s are great players.

Looks like he might sign with Cosmos.

Plus it also mentions he is still rehabilitating from his back injury, which is the reason he failed the medical with Sampdoria. Not because he was just unfit as people on here were saying.

It says he close to getting back to full fitness, hopefully once he is he'll sign to a decent club and start bolstering Greece's woeful attack!

Unfit has only one clear definition.

When he gets back to full fitness, he's still a year away from getting into typical Samaras shape, which is to say shyte.  Done and dusted.  Good luck wherever you go, Sammy, you had your moments.

No it doesn't he was basically injured which is why he failed the medical.

Unfit would be someone who couldn't perform due to being out of shape.

It is clearer now based on the various reports from the last few weeks that he was in NYC since August rehabbing and getting treatment for a back injury. One Greek report mentioned a specific hospital. During this time he was also training with the Cosmos and seems to have made a good impression on the team's management.

According to the Greek sports websites he was in Thessaloniki last weekend.

That much is fairly certain. The rest is speculation. I would be surprised if he ended up anywhere in January. The rumor mill would have been going strong by now if he was healthy enough to play. We'll see.

Whats the obessesion with this guy?

He wants to live in New York and this team will pay him more then a MLS team.

In Europe nobody rates the MLS so nobody cares if he plays in a MLS or a 2nd League team in the USA.

Leave the guy alone.

Lost the hunger of being a professional footballer IMO.

Played & scored goals in the Dutch Eredivisie, EPL, SPL, Europa League, UCL which included big money deals with Manchester City & Glasgow Celtic where he won trophy after trophy.

About 80 caps for Greece which included playing in two UEFA Euro & two FIFA World Cup tournaments scoring in the Euro 2012 QF against Germany & famously took Greece to the last 16 of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup by winning & scoring the penalty in stoppage time to beat Ivory Coast 2-1.

He has been a professional footballer not only from the age of 16 away from home in the Netherlands but grew up in that environment where his father was also a professional footballer.

So it looks like the back problem is still an issue based on the stories Nikitas posted. If the NY Cosmos, a 2nd tier US team, doesn't want to take a chance then who would?

With no news from the Greek press it doesn't look good for Samaras.
