It's a great week for Turkish teams in Euroleague as both Ulker and Efes beat strong oppositions in their games of week 5...

Efes Pilsen had to fight hard to come over a tough and rebounding Real Madrid team 74-70... It was Willie Solomon's court vision and Ermal Kurtoglu's great paint dominance that gave Efes the win... Crucial points from shooting guard Henry Kim Domercant and Kaya Peker at times also helped us whilst it was Elmer Bennett, Michale Gelabale and partially Alberto Herreros for Real to do anything in the dangerous column...

With this win, Efes is now 4-1 in five games and is on hot trail of Climamio or the ex-Skipper who is 5-0...

However sensational news came when Ulkerspor trashed Benetton Treviso 65-50 at Treviso... Thanks to some sharp shooting from guards Saulius Stombergas and Serkan Erdogan and a board dominance to watch out for by Eurelius Zukauskas Ulker gained a somewhat easy win... Marcus Johnston Goree tried all his best to save the Italians, but it was never gonna be enough. Ulker's defensive effort has to be applauded as they are probably the only team to keep Benetton at 50 points in their Euroleague campaigns since 1995...

Ulker is now 2-3 and has to go on with this form, otherwise their qualifying chances are very dim in a very tough group including the top-favourite for this year's Euroleague title CSKA Moscow...

Quite a performance by Ulker!! Many experienced players gathered there. Perhaps its time some other team that Efes to make it to the final-4 (Where CSKA will win, of course).

It is not very important if you are second or fourth in such groups. So 2-3 does not say anything...

quite frankly i don't think so! Efes is always so consistent and every year they lose a star player and they do not fill his void but they still succeed. they're the most consistent team in Europe, always at top 8 hardly at final-four... they've lost Kambala and Marcus Brown two years ago and signed Prkacin -crap when compared to Kaspars- and Trajan Langdon -a static shooting guard who had no dribbling or playmaking skills as of Marcus- as their replacements but they lost out to Skipper by virtue of one point -that final shot by Basile was fantastic though heartbreaking-... This year their go-to-guy from last year, Antonio Granger left the team and Efes signed the almighty Mustafa Abi as his replacement -if he is- but Efes is still performing pretty well... 4-1 and only one loss to Climamio not that bad is it...

Ulker needs well... i don't know but whatever they do, they suck in the Top 16... They have a great backcourt in Serkan, Stombergas, Dion & Tunceri but i doubt their Lithuanian front court pairing of Zukauskas & Praskevicijus will come up a bit short against big-time opposition... that's why i see Ulker win vs Benetton something very very surprising... It's especially more surprising when I state the fact that Ulker is 2-1 away and 0-2 home...

For our teams to be more competitive in Europe, our federation should increase the number of foreign players in our league... It's allowed a maximum of four foreigners per team in Turkey and that is a problem... And our main teams' foreigners are as follows...

EFES: Willie Solomon - USA - PG - 1.89... Henry Kim Domercant - USA - SG - 1.94... Nikola Prkacin - CRO - C - 2.09... Goran Nikolic - SCG - SF/PF - 2.03...

ULKER: Saulius Stombergas - LIT - SG - 1.98... Virgilijus Praskevicijus - LIT - PF - 2.05... Dion Mohammed Glover - USA - SG - 1.95... Eurelius Zukauskas - LIT - C - 2.18...

BJK: Khaleed El-Amin - USA - PG - 1.77... Albert Mouring - USA - SG - 1.94... Ratko Varda - SCG - C - 2.15...

so sweet rivalry picks on again ;)

Olympiakos-Efes Pilsen...

Ulker-Panathinaikos...

I frankly see two away victories here... Efes will beat Thrynos for sure... The game between Ulker and PAO is evenly matched but I see Ulker players screwing things towards the end which will make up for a PAO win...

however, I will not be surprised to see both Efes and Ulker winning...

any comments?!

Turkey is going to stage the 2010 World Basketball Championships... The FIBA Board in Malaysia elected Turkey out of three competitors... The voting system was a two-tailed one. In the first round, just after the presentations, France got 8 votes to Turkey's 7 and Serbia's 4. This result meant that France and Turkey would go into the final round as lowest scoring candidate Serbia was eliminated. In the second round Turkey got 10 votes to France's 9 and thus was awarded the right to set up the organization in 2010...

The games will be held at four cities. First round games to be held at Ankara, Antalya and Izmir and the final round will be hosted in Istanbul. From the 1/16 finals till the Classification matches(including the semis) Abdi Ipekci Arena will host the games and the Finals will be at the newl-built Sinan Erdem Sports Complex with a European record of 23,000 seating capacity...

FORZA TURKIYE :) B) B) :)

ULKER-PANATHINAIKOS: 66-64

It was a great win for Ulker in front of 6,000 roaring fans... Serkan Erdogan carried the team on his shoulders with his 21 points 4 rebounds and Eurelius Zukauskas responsed when needed with 13 points 5 rebounds... But it was the new signing shooting-guard David Jackson that stole the game away as he lashed the game with a four-point play after a 1/1 3-pt attempt... Nicos Chatzivrettas had the final chance to win the game with a trey but his shot was not enough to undo a eager Ulker side... Here are the game leaders for both teams...

ULKER

POINTS

#5 Serkan Erdogan - 21 (Ulker)

#10 Nikos Chatzivrettas - 15 (Panathinaikos)

REBOUNDS

#12 Kerem Gonlum - 8 (Ulker)

#9 Pat Femerling - 5 (Panathnaikos)

ASSISTS

#10 Kerem Tunceri - 4 (Ulker)

#5 Jaka Lakovic - 3 (Panathinaikos)

GOOD WIN FOR ULKER

That's the Albanian Ermal Kuqo isn't it?

yeah but after he was moderated a Turkish citizenship, his name was changed as Ermal Kurtoglu. He prefers Kuqo in European Games but Kurtoglu in TBL...

he also played for Turkey and already has 15 caps... :)

OLYMPIACOS - EFES PILSEN : 59 - 110

A very powerful and dominating Efes chopped off Olympiacos at OAKA Sports Hall, Piraeus. Once the Blues took the lead they never looked back and a vintage performance from point-guard Willie Solomon was enough to undo a very very poor Olympiacos side...

This win ended a great Turkish EuroLeague week as both Efes Pilsen and Ulkerspor gained some charismatic victories over their Greek counterparts Olympiacos and PAO respectively...

Efes Pilsen is now 5-1 and shares the top spot with Climamio in Group A and Ulkerspor is 3-3 and tied for second place behind the almighty CSKA...

TURK TELEKOM-ARIS EGNATIA: 78-87

DeJuan Collins and Ryan Stack combined for 49 points as the efforts of two Telekom guards Sascha Stefanovic and Willie Deane was not enough to prevent Turk Telekom's seventh defeat in seven Uleb Cup games...

I was at the game and I have to say that Collins adds some vital game depth and court vision to this team, scoring aside... And can someone answer how Sofokles Schortsanitis a Greek is???

ULKER-SKYLINERS FRANKFURT: 79 - 60

After one great display after another, the victory for Ulker was something rather accustomed for us.. it was not! :nono: After a 60-68 loss at the hands of Efes on Sunday, Ulker needed an impressive victory to get back on track, which they utterly did...

Dominating at both ends of the court, Ulker began and finished the game strongly. Ulker was led by Serkan Erdogan once more as he chipped in 17 points to be followed by Virgilijus Praskevicius coming off-the bench to score 16... Tutku Acik's 7 assists in 15 minutes was seomthing to be noted for and at last the team got some performance from Dion Mohammed Glover who took the stage for 13 points 4 rebounds 4 assists...

With this win, Ulker is now 5-3 and looks to share the second position with PAO and if Benetton win their game this week, they'll be a co-follower,too...

ADECCO MADRID - EFES PILSEN: 61 -66

A great team effort gave Efes a vital win where all players added something to the stakes... The most notable statistic was probably 17 points from Goran Nikolic who rarely takes the stage to be top scorer in a game...

Good Job Guyz!!! :nw:

  • 2 weeks later...

He is considered a talent and from what I have heard is already watched by NBA scouts

he's already drafted by an NBA franchise. I don't remember which team but it could be Trail Blazers or Grizzlieswith the best preference... Actually, I haven't seen anything worthy of that guy. He has a huge size compared to most of European Centers but he is not playing enough to improve. He needs some shooting training I believe cause even in pre-game training he had visible problems with his shooting skills...
