SL1-PO-R1: PAOK - Olympiakos (07-Jun-20, 19:30 EEST)

Blackhawk

Recommended Posts

My lineup for the game:

----------------- Paschalakis --------------
Matos - Varela - Mihaj - Vieirinha
----------- Misic ---------- Mauricio ----
Limnios ------------------- El Kaddouri
---------- Pelkas -- Swiderski ----------

Let's not forget there will be a 20-men squad and a possibility of 5 substitutions.

The only bad thing is that there will be Greek refs.

What is even worse is that  I heard the whole league is run by them too, can you imagine!

Yes, not the end of the world guys

I don't think having Greek refs is the end of the world, it's not ideal though. Would you agree that having foreign refs has been mainly successful? They still do make mistakes (every ref does) but IMO it has for the most part kept the peace between teams and fans, at least on the pitch. Although foreign refs aren't immune to the off field m*****es present in Greek football, as we saw in the AEK-Aris match in the Cup.

If a foreign referee makes an error, players, managers and fans get frustrated but accept it, and forget about it 2 minutes later.  In other words, they behave like normal human beings.

If a Greek referee makes an error, players carry on like pork chops, managers too, even team officials and owners.  Conspiracy theories begin and never end.  But this is because the history of Greek football has sufficient examples of said corruption so it’s easy to just say “the referee was paid” or find a photo that is 20 years old where the referee is wearing a jersey supporting some team when he was teenager.  To be fair, most Greek referees are either not up to scratch or just can’t be bothered with the drama.  It’s easier to take the path of least resistance and just favour the team whose owner won’t F*** up your life.

Given the standings in the league I don’t really care if we have Greek referees or not for the play offs.  The only interest is who takes 2nd place but if you’re into conspiracy theories that much it’s going to AEK all the way.  In general though, foreign referees all the way.  The Greek mentality, when it comes to football, is much too volatile to handle using Greek referees.  One genuine big mistake in a critical game and all he’ll can break loose.  Heck, even guns can appear on the pitch. ?

What I am interested in seeing is the general level of fitness and play of the team.  Abel hasn’t really come to grips with the team.  I’m hoping this is the beginning of a change that will see the team begin next season on the front foot.

The presence of Greek refs in the playoffs pretty much guarantees AEK the 2nd place. There is a reason why AEK and Olympiakos do not want foreign refs. It's easier to control the Greek refs than the foreign ones, since you don't have to resort to genitalia grabbing tactics. You just simply beat them up to a pulp to keep them in line.

The other joke that came out today was that there will not be fans attending the first round of playoffs, but decision will be made in couple days about the rest of the games. Of course we know the reason why.

It has been, although we saw one game, the Slovenian guy had an absolute shocker, but as @Bananas has perfectly pointed out, as it was a foreign reff, people just got on with it. If he was Greek, as per @Blackhawk its rigged etc...

All in all, Bananas has summed it up PERFECTLY.

Which it is. And if the Greek ref does not conform than the ref's business gets blown up. Or you are attacked by four masked men that traveled from Athens to Larisa and back to Athens. Or if you are on the ref's commission and you don't conform with someones wishes, you summer house in Halkidiki gets set on fire. Just 3 examples from the past few years that nobody has gone to jail for yet.

As long as Greece remains a third world country corruption wise, only foreign refs should be calling the games.

Charis Tsiggaras is 19 and midfielder. He is from our U19. Wears #51 at the back of his shirt. Don't know anything about him actually.

Christos Tzolis is a 18 year old forward from our U19. Scores a lot of goals. He will wear jersey #68.

But where is the other kid?: Gaitanidis. Liked how he played in the pre-season. Is he injured again?

Greece is a third world country mentality wise mostly. I think personally when everyone who is over 45-50 old right now dies and makes way for the younger more open minded people to take more control and have more influence in Greece the nation will see brighter days. Just my own hunch (sorry old dudes). There are exceptions, but the older mentality of many in Greece is what holds the nation back in many ways, soccer included.

Soccer is a reflection of society, the old ways need to go, every country has some corruption but we have been robbing with two hands forever and not taking the basic measures to provide a future for the next generations that will have a  quality of life or the opportunities and privileges on the same level (never mind better) that we have benefited from. Younger people see and have more access to what is going on internally and outside the country, I have hope, but it will take time.

Or you are confronted by an armed man and his goons on the pitch on live tv.

Yes, but as per above posts which everyone agrees on, had the ref been a foreign one the players and bench would have accepted the original goal decision and the chaos that unfolded would not have played out.

Players will drop like flies. The players of PAOK and Olympiakos will be playing 12 months without a real break.

Good we have the possibility of 5 subs. In the German Bundesliga there is a significant difference in injuries before and after the Corona-break. B.C. there were 0,25 % injuries were it is 0,88% A.C.!!
