  • Blackhawk changed the title to Greek Cup Final: PAOK -AEK (11-May-19)

Tomorrow is the meeting to determine the details of the final. The politician wants the easy way out and have the game played without fans. Apparently if that is the case PAOK will ask to have the game moved out of Athens to a neutral venue.

They are promising that VAR will be used at this game, but I would not hold my breath. The fact that a foreign ref will call the game is a big step in the right direction.

Would the VAR be done by Greek officials ?  If so, I’d rather there is no VAR.  I don’t see the sense in using the Cup Final as the first trial run.  Better to begin using it at the start of a season.  Having said that we have all seen some horrible VAR decisions that seem to defeat the purpose of its intention which is to stop obviously horrible errors.  Instead it’s being used to see if players are 1 millimetre offside or if a handball is a handball because a defenders arm is at certain angles when a ball was kicked into them at 100 mph.  The original impetus for it was the goal England scored in the World Cup, where the ball was like 1 foot inside the goal but it was so fast the referees missed it.  In this case, where it’s 100% clear, let VAR be involved.  Otherwise, it shouldn’t be invoked.

The game is going to be behind closed doors without fans and still in Athens at OAKA.

What.a.joke.

Never mind the fact they are not allowing fans  but to then still play it at at that stadium is pretty disgraceful. The only need to play it there would be for ‘fans safety’ as they kept telling us. So why do we need to play it in AEKs  home now?

Seems Giannoulis has a broken nose. Face mask? I'm not sure if there's a period during which inflammation would necessitate him sitting out. I'd rather Tosca start on the left than Crespo, TBH.

Otherwise, Matos *should* be good for this game.

What a joke.

Greek police gets cuts from the ticket sales in order guarantee safety at the stadiums and then they have the audacity to claim that they can't guarantee that the final can be played safely.

The Greek government (Vasiliadis) playing political games by excluding fans from the game that should be a showcase of Greek football.

EPO that has no balls to tell the idiots from the government to take a hike and have the game be played with fans, even if it means playing the game outside Greece. Also EPO should go to UEFA and complain about governmental interference in the game of football.

The Greek Cup is slowly becoming a farce. If I was PAOK, I would not enter the competition next season in protest.

Can't really say I will enjoy watching the game on Saturday.

If they refuse to play, they'll get docked all sorts of points. Pointless stands won't really accomplish much. And frankly, all the teams need to clean house when it comes to their terrible fans...because you KNOW that if we had fans there, there would be a fight. In fact, I bet there still will be, outside the stadium.

Should just have the final be made up of women and children though. Would be a great look if Athenians attacked busloads full of children.

I am not saying not to play on Saturday. I am talking about the next season's Greek Cup. Can't be punished if you don't enter the competition and pay the entrance fee.

Agree on the other points, but if the police did their work there would never be any problems in the stadiums. The police is actually part of the problem.

I was referring to next year - what's to stop them from applying some other kind of punishment to us? Doesn't seem this has stopped them in the past.

"PAOK is hereby fined 4.8mm EUR and docked 20 points for disrespecting the game."

Last season in the Greek Cup many 3rd division did not apply to play in the cup despite the fact that they could according to the Greek Cup rules. However they decided not to citing the high cost of application fee. I don't remember any of those teams being punished with fines and/or point deductions. There is a precedent. Now in Greece anything is possible depending on who runs the show, so it's always possible they can invent any rules to suit their purpose.

Final will be played with only a few eyewitnesses as Vasiliadis allows only some selected guests for each team.

AEX 120 guests

PAOK 120 guests

EPO 600 guests

Pffffff
